Scope

A major Canadian organization in the aviation sector has a requirement for an experienced Technology Data Analyst Modeler. The successful candidate will contribute to the next phase of a high-impact data transformation initiative, supporting the development and optimization of both new and existing data pipelines.

Description of Work
Under the general direction of the Project Authority, the contractor will work as part of the delivery team and will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Lead the development of enterprise data architecture components, including data requirements, conceptual and physical data models, data storage, data flows, mappings, and lineage analysis. Translate business data needs into efficient and scalable technical requirements and designs for data engineering solutions.

  • Conduct data quality assessments and analysis. Define and monitor key performance indicators related to data quality.

  • Analyze current architecture and identify inefficiencies or defects, recommending modernization strategies to optimize performance and reduce long-term costs.

  • Write and execute complex SQL and Python queries on Azure Databricks to support data warehousing and data engineering processes, based on documented data transformations and mapping rules.

  • Lead and coordinate data testing efforts including development of Test Strategies, Plans, Cases, and Scripts. Log defects, collaborate with developers on resolution, and conduct retesting as needed.

  • Ensure testing aligns with enterprise standards and requirements, and support the business team during User Acceptance Testing.

  • Develop and maintain technical system specifications and standard operating procedures.

  • Collaborate with peers, share expertise, and mentor team members.

  • Participate in regular team meetings to report progress, blockers, and completed tasks.

  • Attend technical discussions and provide expert input on solution options and best practices.

  • Evaluate the technical, business, and economic feasibility of proposed solutions to meet organizational goals.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in requirements management, data and systems analysis, and full-cycle development/testing of complex systems.

  • 5+ years of project planning and estimation, with the ability to provide clear timelines and deliverable commitments.

  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing test strategies, plans, and test cases.

  • 5+ years working with cloud technologies—preferably Microsoft Azure—and tools such as Azure DevOps, Data Lake Storage, App Services, Databricks, and Data Explorer.

  • Strong expertise in writing advanced SQL queries and using database technologies like Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Experience in Agile environments and working with CI/CD pipelines, particularly in Azure DevOps or equivalent.

  • Experience as a Scrum Facilitator is considered an asset.

  • Proficiency in Python, R, or Scala, and experience working with spatial data are considered strong assets.

Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of enterprise data architecture, including modeling for storage, integrity, and security.

  • Familiarity with data engineering practices such as acquisition design, batch and stream processing, and object-oriented database design.

  • Strong working knowledge of Azure-based tools and services.

  • Understanding of both traditional and Agile software development lifecycles, formal testing methodologies, and product lifecycle management.

  • Awareness of industry trends, workflows, and best practices within complex operational environments.

  • Familiarity with project management and governance frameworks.

Abilities

  • Ability to analyze and document business processes and system requirements, aligning solutions within time and resource constraints.

  • Skilled in identifying and addressing system inefficiencies, and recommending improvements.

  • Capable of making strategic trade-offs between technical idealism and business impact.

  • Strong communicator, able to convey information effectively across verbal, visual, and written channels.

  • Proven ability to produce clear and accessible technical documentation for diverse audiences.

  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills; able to serve as a technical advisor.

  • Adept at managing and prioritizing tasks across multiple concurrent projects.

Primary Deliverables

  • Enterprise data architecture documentation, including conceptual and solution designs.

  • Data management assets such as models, flows, mappings, and lineage documents.

  • Testing documentation including strategies, plans, test cases, scripts, and execution evidence.

  • Regular status reports detailing progress, completed work, and identified issues or blockers.

Work Term
This is a full-time engagement starting on or around June 1, 2025, through May 31, 2026, with potential for extension based on project needs.

Time & Reporting
The contractor will submit weekly timesheets detailing hours worked per day (8-hour workday). A hybrid work model is available at the discretion of the Project Authority.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$80.00 and CA$100.00
