Job Title: Permitting Specialist

Location: Calgary, AB (Hybrid)
    
Estimated Duration: 12 Months

Our client a Multi-disciplined EPC is looking for a Permitting Specialist to join their team in Calgary, AB.
 
This role will oversee and enforce health and safety protocols on major , including roads, bridges, and infrastructure works. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, proactive, and hands-on in the field, ensuring full compliance with provincial and federal safety regulations.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 

  • Lead the preparation, submission, tracking, and coordination of all permit applications required for construction, land development, and building activities.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on the City of Calgary's permitting processes, including Development Permits (DP), Building Permits (BP), Road Use Permits, Excavation Permits, Utility Line Assignments (ULA), and other municipal approvals.
  • Interpret City of Calgary bylaws, zoning regulations, and building codes to ensure project compliance.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering, construction, and project management teams to gather required documentation and technical drawings for permit submissions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with City planners, reviewers, inspectors, and other officials to expedite review processes and resolve permitting issues.
  • Track and report on the status of all active permits, proactively identifying and mitigating potential delays or compliance risks.
  • Provide strategic advice on permitting timelines and potential impacts to project schedules.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and communicate updates to project stakeholders.

 
Qualifications:
 

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in permitting or municipal approvals, ideally in the Calgary region.
  • Strong working knowledge of City of Calgary permitting procedures, systems (e.g., VISTA, apply.calgary.ca, ePermits), bylaws, and development requirements.
  • Experience supporting permitting on heavy civil construction projects (e.g., roads, bridges, underground utilities, land servicing).
  • Familiarity with applicable Alberta Building Code and City of Calgary Land Use Bylaw.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to coordinate with both internal teams and municipal departments.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and tracking capabilities.

 
 
Nice to Have:
 

  • Existing working relationships with City of Calgary Development Approvals or Building Services departments.
  • Experience working for or with general contractors or engineering consultants on public infrastructure projects.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$45.00 and CA$55.00
