Senior Project Engineering Manager

Possible FTE conversion after 12–18 months on contract assignment.
Location: Albany, NY (Remote)

Travel is not consistent — candidate should plan to travel about one week per month.
Ideally located near a client hub, but not required. Preference for an Eastern Time Zone home base.


Job Summary

The Senior Project Engineering Manager will operate under the direction of the Americas Pole Leader for Project Engineering Management. This role is responsible for executing the engineering portion of OTR contracts that include Balance of Plant (BOP) scope.

You will own project control activities globally and drive consistent functional specifications and standardized processes for project implementation. The position impacts project quality, efficiency, and effectiveness across teams, requiring sound professional judgment and operational autonomy. Occasional travel within the U.S., Latin America, and internationally is required.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical leader and manager to develop scope of work, scheduling plans, and oversight of engineering activities for customer projects.

  • Provide technical leadership and interface with proposal management, cost estimating, partners, customers, product engineering, sourcing, and subcontracted engineering teams.

  • Develop specialized knowledge in your discipline and serve as a best-practice and quality resource.

  • Contribute to strategy and policy development to ensure project delivery within your area of responsibility.

  • Apply in-depth knowledge of best practices, competitive factors, and industry standards to guide decision-making.

  • Use technical expertise and data analysis to support operational and engineering recommendations.

  • Lead small to medium-sized projects with moderate risks and resource requirements.

  • Communicate complex or sensitive information clearly to build consensus and influence stakeholders.

  • Own the engineering execution of BOP-scoped projects from contract signature to the completion of contractual obligations.

  • Manage a cross-functional engineering team to identify and mitigate project risks and maximize opportunities.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to project management and internal engineering teams.

  • Review customer specifications and communicate requirements to design teams through internal documentation systems.

  • Evaluate the financial and scheduling impacts of customer-requested scope changes.

  • Provide technical support to engineering, sourcing, vendors, and installation teams to ensure compliance with customer and business objectives.

  • Enforce quality procedures and contribute to their continuous improvement.

  • Capture and document lessons learned to ensure organizational knowledge retention.

  • Work collaboratively within a matrix organization that includes engineering teams, project managers, quality, sourcing, logistics, and scheduling.

  • Serve as Senior Project Engineering Manager to lead cross-product technical integration, ensuring alignment across all project lines (GT/ST/Gen/BOP).

  • Partner with project managers for customer and EPC meetings, driving resolution of technical issues and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.

  • Manage technical risks and project profitability within assigned budgets.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Engineering or another STEM-related field from an accredited university or college.

  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant industry experience with increasing responsibility.

  • Expertise in one or more engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, or Process).

The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is between $50.00 and $63.00
