Job Title: Business Analyst

Location: Edmonton, AB (Hybrid)

Position Summary
Key Responsibilities and Skills

Elicit, analyze, and document all functional and non-functional requirements (user stories, use cases, specifications) from stakeholders.
Serve as the primary communication bridge between the business users/owners and the project team (developers, architects, vendors).
Work with the Project Manager (PM) to clearly define and manage the project scope and boundaries.
Analyze current state (“As-Is”) business processes and design future state (“To-Be”) processes, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.
Maintain a centralized repository of requirements and business rules throughout the project lifecycle.
Proven experience working in both Agile (writing user stories, defining acceptance criteria) and Waterfall (creating detailed functional specifications).
Mastery of various techniques: interviews, workshops, surveys, and document analysis.
Ability to map “As-Is” and design “To-Be” processes using standards like BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation).
Exceptional ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and vice versa. Must be an effective workshop facilitator.
Ability to identify the root cause of a problem (not just the symptom) and evaluate multiple solution options (build vs. buy, impact vs. effort).
Skillful in managing conflicting requirements and mediating between business users to drive consensus on scope.
Key Resource Knowledge and Skllls for Each Project
Intranet Design and Implementation:
Content Strategy & UX Focus:

• Define the Information Architecture (IA) and navigation strategy for the intranet.
• Conduct user experience (UX)
interviews and surveys to gather requirements for the look, feel, and usability.
• Focus heavily on requirements related to search functionality, personalization, and content publishing workflows.
Knowledge Management:
Content & Data Taxonomy:
• Analyze existing content repositories (shared drives, legacy systems) and develop a taxonomy, metadata structure, and tagging standards for new knowledge.
• Define requirements for content creation, retirement, and maintenance governance models.
• Focus on requirements for integrating KM with operational
systems (e.g., Salesforce, ticketing systems).
Define and document the acceptance criteria and support the creation of test plans, often leading User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and validating that the delivered solution meets the stated requirements.
We are seeking highly skilled Business Analysts (2 roles, possibly 3) with demonstrated knowledge and experience in performing the Business Analyst role in a variety of projects to join our growing team.
The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in guiding our clients through complex business challenges in projects involving the design and implementation of a Service
Directory for End User Services, Intranet Design and Implementation, Knowlege Management Design and Implementation, Research Administrative Service Improvements, Finance Planning and Budgeting system implementation.

Research Administrative Service Improvements:
Process Improvement & Compliance:
• Deep-dive into specific administrative workflows (e.g., grant submission, ethics review) using Lean
or Six Sigma techniques.
• Elicit requirements specific to regulatory compliance (e.g., funding body rules, institutional policies).
• Focus on simplifying complex hand-offs and defining metrics for service efficiency and turnaround time.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$80.00 and CA$100.00
