Job Title: Engineer III, Mechanical
Term: 12 months
Location: North Vancouver, BC

Job Description
The Engineer III, Mechanical Mission coordinates and executes engineering tasks within allocated systems design in compliance with schedule and budget specifications. The Engineer III, Mechanical Mission is responsible for participating in all phases of new construction design projects including requirements decomposition, design preparations, Supporting analysis, material selection and specification, engineering execution, and engineering close-out activities. 

Duties/Accountabilities

  • Provides engineering and design solutions for mechanical mission marine systems in compliance with requirements. 
  • Performs calculations to validate system designs and compliance with requirements. 
  • Develops and/or Reviews material specifications and bills of material in accordance with client material strategies and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with the supply chain department to engage and interact with suppliers. 
  • Provides directions to suppliers and subcontractors related to the mechanical mission design to achieve contract, cost and schedule performance.  
  • Performs field reviews and provides support to production. 
  • Reports technical risk and develops mitigation strategies. 
  • Develops Test Agendas and Equipment Installation Strategies 
  • Liaises with downstream business groups to provide information required for production planning and supports issues encountered on the shop floor. 
  • Generates equipment purchase specifications. 
  • Reviews vendor information against the requirements. 
  • Liaises with internal clients regarding the design outputs. 
  • Proactively ensures the design tasks are conducted in partnership with other engineering disciplines and ensures good communication of design interfaces with other teams. 
  • Selects components and develops the maturity of parts associated with the Bill of Materials 
  • Coordinate design packages for client and classification society approval. 
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
  • Cooperate with supply chain to engage and deal with suppliers.

 Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.  
  • 5+ years of post-secondary experience in Engineering, preferably with knowledge of ship/maritime mission systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • EGBC registered Professional Engineer is required.   
  • Experience in coordinating the work of others. 
  • Experience working with a diversely integrated project team is considered an asset. 

Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

  • Analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as a key part of the collective analysis/synthesis process. 
  • Experience completing schematic design (ex. process flow) and supporting calculations. 
  • Knowledge & familiarity with piping specifications.
  • Experience on hydraulic, elevator, lifting system is preferred.   
  • Technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports. 
  • Knowledge of MRP, purchasing and management systems is preferred. 
  • Understanding of ShipConstructor, CADMATIC and ACAD software, document control systems and databases. 
  • Ability to work effectively across a multi-disciplined team. 
  • Critical thinker with the ability to analyze change requests, projects, and designs to anticipate schedule or budget risk. 
  • Ability to work without supervision and provide technical guidance on testing, evaluating and improving engineering outcomes. 
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  • Committed to a high standard of safety and able to follow all safety laws and all the employer's safety policies and rules. 
  • Proficient computer skills. Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office 2010 software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
