The mandate of the Credit Management & Bank Operations department of Canadian Tire Bank is to provide world class analytics to maximize our credit card portfolio profitability by balancing risk with reward potential. The Data Scientist position reports to the Manager, Customer Modeling & Segmentation. The position is responsible for the design, development and implementation of proprietary credit score models and machine learning techniques that help improve our already strong predictive analytics capabilities.
What you’ll do
- Develop predictive models that will form the basis of information-driven strategies executed within Credit Risk which includes credit limit assignment, marketing promotions, collections and account origination adjudication
- Design and implement robust model deployment techniques, as well as performance metric tracking
- Participate in the development of new predictive models to support the business, including preliminary analyses of available data and advising on feasibility/impact.
- Predictive model validation and evaluation through development of objective-specific metrics
- Develop and maintain expertise with lending, credit scoring, behaviour scoring, portfolio management, direct marketing, data mining, and industry trends
- Perform adhoc analysis as requested by business partners, manger and senior leadership and communicate results
- Perform quantitative analysis on the CTB portfolio and translate results into actionable recommendations
- Foster relationships with internal business partners to develop a thorough understanding of the business & ensure that Credit Risk interests are addressed in collaborative projects
- Prioritize & manage multiple work assignments in a changing business environment to ensure that projects are implemented on time & with quality
What you bring
- University degree in a quantitative discipline, Mathematics, Statistics, preferred
- Demonstrated superior analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to program in pertinent languages, including SAS, SQL, Python
- Proven ability to translate business needs into statistically sound solutions, and vice versa
- Big picture thinking: Ability to step back and understand impacts on a larger scale and explain complex analytical recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong written and oral communication skills when presenting results to business stakeholders
- Knowledge of the credit card lifecycle & credit risk management is preferred

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$85,000 and CA$100,000
