Cyber Analytics Specialist
Our client in the public sector is seeking a Cyber security Analytics Specialist who will provide technical and analytical support to develop, maintain, and optimize data solutions for cyber security reporting and analytics. This includes designing automated workflows and dashboards that deliver clear, actionable insights for executive and operational decision-making.

 
The role will collaborate across teams to ensure data integrity, resolve pipeline issues, and enable advanced analytics that support strategic objectives. The Specialist will also manage and enhance the AWS-based data pipeline and Tableau SaaS environment, ensuring operational continuity and reducing long-term reliance on external resources.
 
In addition, the Specialist will leverage JIRA administration and general development experience to support workflows, manage backlog items, and implement automation scripts for process efficiency.
  

Assignment Duties

 
The Cyber Analytics Specialist role encompasses the management of AWS data pipelines, integration of Tableau SaaS, administration and automation within JIRA, and general software development to deliver high-quality solutions. The Specialist will actively collaborate with City stakeholders, external vendors, and teams to build and maintain resilient data pipelines, ensure the reliability of dashboards, and support efficient workflows for cyber security reporting and analytics.
 
2.1 AWS Data Pipeline Management
o Maintain and enhance the cyber dashboards data pipeline in AWS.
o Add or remove data sources and implement structural changes as required.

  • Manage and optimize AWS-based data pipelines for cyber security metrics and trends.
  • Automate workflows and ensure reliability of ingestion processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve pipeline issues to prevent delays and maintain quality.

2.2 File and Data Operations
o Handle activities related to moving flat files and serve as backup administrator for file operations.

  • Apply version control best practices for scripts and workflows.
  • Perform data transformation, cleaning, and validation to ensure accurate reporting.

2.3 Access and Security Management

  • Manage user access in Tableau, with potential future integration of Tableau and EntraID for Single Sign-On (SSO).
  • Ensure compliance with identity and access management standards.

2.4 Dashboard Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Perform fixes and logic updates for production dashboards  
  • Support dashboard publishing and advanced analytics for executive and operational reporting.
  • Design and maintain interactive dashboards in Tableau for multiple stakeholder levels.

2.5 Integration and Automation o Integrate APIs to enable data exchange between systems and support automation.

  • Work within the Tableau SaaS solution fully hosted on AWS, leveraging Glue, Lambda, Redshift, Step Functions, and Workspaces for secure ingestion and automation.

2.6 General Development Responsibilities o Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools to streamline data ingestion and transformation.

  • Build reusable components for ETL workflows and dashboard logic. o Apply best practices in software development, including version control (Git), code reviews, and documentation. o Collaborate with developers to integrate APIs and custom connectors for data exchange. o Support enhancements to legacy workflows using scripting languages (Python, VBA) and modern frameworks.

2.7 JIRA Administration o Configure and maintain JIRA workflows, dashboards, and permissions.

  • Implement automation within JIRA for task assignments and notifications.

 
3.        Experience and Qualifications
 

Supplier must respond to all requirements provided in Appendix 1 – RFR Requirements

 
3.1 AWS Expertise and Data Engineering o Hands-on experience with AWS services, including S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, Step Functions, and Workspaces. o Proven ability to manage and optimize AWS-based data pipelines for cyber security metrics and trends.

  • Strong background in data engineering and analytics, including building and enhancing ETL workflows.
  • Proficiency in SQL and relational data modeling. o Experience in data automation using AWS and standard tools (Excel, SharePoint, VBA preferred for legacy workflows).
  • Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git) for managing scripts and workflows. o Skilled in data transformation, cleaning, and validation for accurate reporting. o Certifications: AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate (Preferred)

3.2 Integration and Automation o Experience with API integration to enable data exchange between systems and support automation.

  • Ability to apply best practices for workflow automation and version control.

3.3 Tableau Administration and Reporting o Ability to design, maintain, and troubleshoot interactive dashboards in Tableau for multiple stakeholder levels.

  • Familiarity with Tableau administration and user access management.
  • Experience supporting dashboard publishing and advanced analytics for executive and operational reporting.

3.4 Identity and Access Management o Knowledge of identity management systems (e.g., EntraID) and Single Sign-On (SSO) integration.

  • Understanding of compliance requirements for access and security management.
    1. Cyber security and Risk Metrics o Familiarity with cyber security or risk metrics and their application in reporting dashboards.
    2. JIRA Administration and Development o Proficient in scripting and automation using Python, JavaScript, and modern frameworks to extend functionality and integrate enterprise systems. 
  • Apply software development best practices including version control (Git), code reviews, and documentation for maintainable and reusable solutions. o Experience configuring JIRA workflows, dashboards, and permissions. o Ability to implement automation and develop custom scripts/plugins for JIRA.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and integration with development pipelines.

3.7 Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills o Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot pipeline failures, resolve dashboard logic issues, and optimize performance.

  • Strong communication and coordination skills to work with cross-functional teams and vendors.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$80.00 and CA$120.00
