We are seeking a seasoned and dynamic Principal Architect to join the CTB IT team. In this role, you will lead the development of technological strategies across the organization and advance the Agentic AI initiative aimed at simplification and cost efficiency, supporting our move toward autonomous operations. Reporting directly to the CIO, CTB, you will oversee the bank's capability model, strategy, roadmaps, standards, and solution patterns. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership with technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to build and mentor high-performing teams.
As a key leader, you will collaborate with other Principal Architects and Technology Leads enterprise-wide, as well as with business leaders across the bank and IT divisions, to define and implement the target state capability strategy. You will cultivate a culture of trust, respect, and open communication among Business, Architecture, and IT teams, providing guidance and support to foster innovation and adaptability. The successful candidate will have a history of managing successful teams, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a passion for driving organizational growth and success. In this role, you will:
What you’ll do

  • Act as the architectural lead for core banking and credit card processing platforms, defining technical direction and solution patterns for modernization.
  • Lead end-to-end architectural design across major banking initiatives, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, compliant, and aligned to business needs.
  • Guide delivery teams working across modern core banking platforms and adjacent systems, providing architectural oversight from design through deployment and support.
  • Define target-state architectures and roadmaps for core banking, including integration approaches, data flows, operational patterns, and modernization strategies.
  • Lead the Architecture Community of Practice. Teach fellow architects how to make and annotate defensible decisions.
  • Advance the bank’s transition toward autonomous digital banking by defining architectures that enable straight-through processing, intelligent decisioning, and reduced manual intervention.
  • Introduce and guide agentic AI architectures, including LLM-based agents and orchestration patterns, to support autonomous workflows across banking operations.
  • Provide architectural oversight across core banking platforms and ecosystems, including FICO, Pega, NICE, TSYS, Wealthview, Databricks, and Azure.
  • Introduce and operationalize agentic AI and other AI/ML capabilities within banking workflows, partnering with AI research teams and product stakeholders.
  • Evaluate emerging AI capabilities and determine how they should be embedded into credit adjudication, servicing, fraud, operations, and customer experiences.
  • Assess the impacts of platform changes, new regulatory requirements, and technology upgrades across the banking ecosystem.
  • Troubleshoot complex architectural issues and guide teams toward practical, defensible technical solutions.
  • Mentor other architects and senior engineers to elevate architectural capability across banking technology.
  • Build strong relationships with business, delivery, and vendor partners, clearly communicating architectural decisions and ensuring alignment across stakeholders.
  • Contribute to technology evaluations, build-versus-buy decisions, and vendor assessments supporting banking modernization.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of current and emerging technologies relevant to banking, cloud, integration, and AI.

What you bring

  • 10+ years of progressive architecture experience in financial services, with strong exposure to banking, credit cards, payments, and core banking systems.
  • Hands-on experience designing and delivering complex solutions for modern core banking platforms.
  • Strong foundational architectural skills, including integration patterns, cloud-native concepts, application design, security, identity, and data flows.
  • Practical experience architecting AI capabilities and embedding agentic AI patterns into enterprise or banking solutions.
  • Experience architecting core banking platforms and ecosystems, including FICO, Pega, NICE, TSYS, Wealthview, and Databricks.
  • Ability to define future-state architectural direction and lead teams through ambiguity, modernization, and rapid technological evolution.
  • Strong communication skills, with demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and guide cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery methodologies, SAFe preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of cloud architecture; Azure experience is preferred.
  • Azure Architect certification or similar cloud/architecture credentials is an asset.
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot and Azure AI tools is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian retail banking operations, processes, and regulatory considerations is preferred.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$113,000 and CA$163,000
