Job Title: Finance Talent Manager

Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid)

Estimated Duration: 6 Months

Overview

Our client are looking for a finance-focused learning and development leader to design and drive an upskilling program for our global finance organization. This role sits at the intersection of Finance, Organizational Development, and Training/Education and will be responsible for turning existing expertise and tribal knowledge into structured, scalable learning programs that support career growth across all finance levels.

You will partner closely with finance leadership, systems/process owners, and change/comms teams to define skills frameworks, build learning roadmaps, and ensure high?quality training content is created, delivered, and measured.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Frameworks

  • Own and evolve the finance capability framework (e.g., Specialist ? Manager/Supervisor ? Director/Controller ? VP):
    • Define and refine skills, behaviors, and expectations for each level.
    • Build growth roadmaps for key roles/functions (e.g., from specialist to manager, manager to director, etc.).
  • Develop a multi?year upskilling strategy for the finance organization focused on:
    • Technology, systems, and process?minded thinking.
    • Technical accounting knowledge (e.g., revenue recognition, core accounting standards).
    • Change management and core “soft” skills tailored to finance (e.g., embracing change, cross?functional collaboration).

Learning Program Design & Ownership

  • Act as the program owner for finance training:
    • Inventory, organize, and “rescue” existing materials, frameworks, and prior work that stalled.
    • Translate leadership and subject?matter expertise into structured learning paths and course modules.
    • Design modular content (e.g., 101/201/301 levels, micro?modules) that can be consumed at scale.
  • Define and oversee certification/badge programs for finance staff (e.g., technology badge, systems badge, technical accounting badge, trainer badges).
  • Ensure training programs support both:
    • Experienced controllers and long?tenured staff in “bubble” locations.
    • New talent entering a more modern, systems?driven finance environment.

Content & Delivery

  • Partner with:
    • Systems experts (e.g., finance systems owners) to build system and process training.
    • Technical accounting SMEs to capture and codify complex accounting topics into courses.
    • Change and communications partners to ensure clear, consistent messaging and rollout.
  • Convert whiteboard sessions, live teaching, and leadership “tribal knowledge” into:
    • Structured e?learning courses, playbooks, and guides.
    • Blended learning experiences (videos, live sessions, Q&A, assignments).
  • Collaborate with comms/marketing and training specialists on delivery format:
    • Move beyond static slide decks where appropriate to more interactive and recorded formats (e.g., video, town hall recordings, guided sessions).
  • Leverage existing tools/platforms (e.g., LMS, Articulate, video/studio resources) to host and manage courses, assignments, and completions.

Governance, Metrics & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish quality standards for all finance training content (clarity, depth, accuracy, and alignment with strategy).
  • Define and track key metrics:
    • Course completion, quiz results, satisfaction/ratings.
    • Uptake by region/function, skill progression against defined frameworks.
  • Use feedback and performance data to continually refine courses, roadmaps, and programs.
  • Create and manage a trainer community within finance:
    • Identify strong internal trainers.
    • Set expectations for trainer performance (e.g., ratings, feedback).
    • Recognize and badge high?performing trainers.

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong background in Finance (e.g., accounting, controllership, FP&A, or related):
    • Demonstrated understanding of finance processes, systems, and technical accounting basics.
  • 5–8+ years of experience in one or more of:
    • Learning & Development / Training, Organizational Development, or Talent Management, ideally in a finance or corporate setting.
    • Or significant experience in a finance leadership/SME role with substantial involvement in training, coaching, or building learning content/programs.
  • Proven ability to:
    • Design and/or oversee structured training programs (curricula, roadmaps, certification).
    • Work with subject?matter experts to turn complex material into clear, teachable content.
    • Navigate change and bring stakeholders along in transformational environments.
  • Strong program ownership skills: can independently scope, prioritize, and drive initiatives from idea to delivery.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; comfortable working with senior finance and HR/OD leaders.

Preferred

  • Experience upskilling a distributed or global finance organization.
  • Exposure to or hands?on experience with:
    • LMS platforms and e?learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate).
    • Designing blended or video?based training (even if via partners or specialists).
  • Background in or strong partnership experience with Organizational Development (OD) and/or Change Management.
  • Professional accounting qualification or equivalent experience (CPA, CA, etc.) is a plus but not required if you bring strong finance/OD training experience.
