Job Title: Grid Modeling Researcher

Location: Houston, TX (Remote)

About The Job

As a Grid Modeling Researcher, you will be a part of our clients organization that works with our rapidly growing US and Global Business teams to help address their current technical needs and test new technologies for the future.

This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to the energy strategy of our company. In collaboration with other researchers on the team and external researchers at national labs and universities, the results from this person's work will be an important part of the growth within the company's global goal of 100GW of renewables by 2030.

Responsibilities

  • Be a subject matter expert in the major US electricity markets for internal partners and stakeholders
  • Develop experimental plans and perform methodical testing for new modeling approaches and inputs (e.g. nodal to zonal simplification, demand side modeling, etc.)
  • Adjust energy system modeling to consider the impact of regulatory and market design evolution
  • Industrial and scientifical scouting on electricity market system modeling and optimization
  • Identification and collaboration with industry-leading research partners, both internally and externally
  • Coordinate plans with internal R&D teams with similar goals
  • Ensure proper follow-up with key stakeholders for project costs, milestones, and relevance of results

Contractor can be at/near the following locations:

  • San Francisco, CA (preferred)
  • Houston, TX office
  • fully remote in the US only

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Power Systems, or related field of study
  • 3+ years of experience in a field related to electricity power markets (design, analysis, optimization, etc.)
  • Experience with data science and quantitative analysis
  • Fluent in English

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in transmission and distribution power systems, grid innovation, and/or demand side forecasting
  • Experience in translating macro trends in grid development (renewable generation, flexible demand side resources, electrification, etc.) into a quantitative impact (congestion, load curve, nodal pricing, etc.)
  • Familiarity with grid modeling software
  • Interest in on-going research and policy topics related to the US electrical grid
  • Proficiency in French

The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is between $75.00 and $80.00
