Health and Safety Commissioning Lead (Contract)

About the Opportunity
A large industrial operations organization is seeking a Health and Safety Commissioning Lead to support the commissioning and start-up of two major water treatment facilities. This position will oversee Health & Safety activities for commissioning teams and play a key role in establishing safe operational readiness for new and upgraded assets.
This is a 12-month contract opportunity based in British Columbia.
The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing Health & Safety programs, ensuring compliance with corporate standards and regulatory requirements, and supporting safe commissioning, handover, and operational start-up activities.
This role requires a strong safety leader with excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in and uphold all Health & Safety programs, procedures, and policies
- Provide leadership and oversight for commissioning-related H&S activities across multiple major water treatment facilities
- Deliver progress updates and reporting on H&S deliverables to senior leadership
- Support technical design and document reviews to ensure compliance with applicable H&S standards, regulations, and industry best practices
- Review operational documentation including Work Instructions, Standard Operating Procedures, and EHSC plans
- Develop and coordinate H&S documentation required for safe operation of new assets, including:
- Site-specific hazard management plans
- Emergency response plans
- Confined space hazard assessments
- Support expansion of confined space programs to accommodate new assets
- Coordinate development and delivery of H&S training programs for operational readiness
- Provide on-site H&S support during commissioning activities, including system walkdowns and operational planning
- Support all H&S deliverables required for successful commissioning, handover, and start-up activities
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of Health & Safety experience within operational start-up environments, mining, industrial operations, water treatment, or related heavy industry environments
- Understanding of applicable local, national, and international H&S regulatory frameworks
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving abilities
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Experience supporting large-scale industrial projects, process plant operations, or hazardous chemical environments is considered a strong asset

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$60.00 and CA$75.00
