Senior Project Manager

1.0       Description of Assignment
The client  is seeking a Project Manager to manage a portfolio of Information Technology Services (ITS) Capital projects. The role requires a seasoned project management professional with a broad range of experience managing multiple, concurrent initiatives within a complex capital portfolio.

The client is currently implementing its SAP transformation roadmap, including phased deployment of SAP business processes across supply chain and finance domains. As the SAP program is delivered in waves, there is a requirement to manage SAP State of Good Repair initiatives. The successful candidate will bring hands-on project delivery experience across finance, procurement, materials, warehouse and inventory management, contracts and expense management, and contingent labour, using SAP S/4HANA, Concur, Fieldglass, and Ariba.

In parallel, the client is delivering the Wayfinding Strategy, a system-wide initiative to establish a unified approach to passenger and visitor navigation. This includes standards, tools, and phased implementation of both physical and digital wayfinding solutions, with the objective of delivering a consistent, accessible, and maintainable program that enhances the customer experience. For this work, the incumbent must demonstrate a proven track record delivering complex, customer-facing transit technology initiatives, including legacy system modernization, multi-channel communications platforms, GTFS and third-party integrations, and accessibility-focused digital products within a large, regulated public-sector environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience delivering both enterprise SAP initiatives and customer-facing digital technology projects.

Strong leadership, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, combined with excellent verbal and written communication abilities, are required to effectively engage with business and technical stakeholders and apply leading project management practices.

This position requires working onsite a minimum of two days per week, with the balance remote. This arrangement is subject to change in accordance with provincial guidelines and client corporate policy.
 

2.0       Skills and Certifications
Mandatory skills:
  • Must hold a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation
  • At least 8 years experience in capital portfolio and multi-project management
  • Hands?on project delivery experience implementing SAP solutions across finance and supply chain domains
  • Proven track record delivering complex, customer?facing transit technology initiatives is an asset

Other skills:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills presenting project status reports to various business  stakeholders including Project Sponsors, Steering Committees and External Vendors
  • Post-secondary education in a business, finance, engineering, or related discipline
  • Experience leading in complex business transformation projects
  • Experience managing cross-functional project teams in a functional matrix environment
  • Proven ability to manage a portfolio of concurrent ITS Capital projects, balancing scope, schedule, cost, and dependencies across multiple initiatives.
  • Advanced skills in project planning, scheduling, and forecasting for capital IT projects.
  • Strong capability to lead and facilitate engagement with: business owners and operational stakeholders, technology teams and enterprise architects, external vendors and system integrators, Steering Committees and executive sponsors
  • Strong people leadership and facilitation skills, including leading cross?functional, matrixed teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including preparation of executive?level status reports, presentations, and decision materials
  • Experience delivering projects within a large, regulated public?sector organization, with demonstrated understanding of compliance, auditability, and transparency requirements
  • Ability to work in a hybrid onsite/remote environment, adapting to client corporate policy and provincial guidelines
  • Transportation industry experience is an asset

 

3.0       Assignment Duties
  • Manage and oversee project deliverables (scope, budget, resources, schedule, communication).
  • Provide leadership, expertise, and motivation to project teams throughout the lifecycle.
  • Assign roles, responsibilities, and authority to project personnel.
  • Lead cross-functional teams (Solution Delivery, BAs, SMEs, vendors, contractors).
  • Produce project artifacts per IT PM Framework (schedules, status reports, risk/issue logs, closeout docs).
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation plans.
  • Define and schedule deliverables, milestones, and tasks (WBS, resource/cost plans, PM plans).
  • Validate project plans for timelines and processes.
  • Establish work plans, staffing, and recruitment/assignment of personnel.
  • Manage and report on project budgets; support client financial planning.
  • Maintain accurate, accessible budget documentation.
  • Ensure program deliverables are met efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Prepare project reports (weekly/ad-hoc) and Steering Committee presentations.
  • Collaborate with managers and coordinators for communication and resource alignment.
  • Monitor activities for accuracy, quality, and integrity.
  • Summarize external service provider contributions.
  • Create and implement communication plans.
  • Support gating process and PMO duties (portfolio reviews, budget submissions).
  • Exercise autonomy and initiative in responsibilities.
  • Ensure project goals align with business objectives.
  • Direct and coordinate personnel to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Review status reports and support staff to meet plans.
  • Participate in ITS PMO activities as required.
4.0       Deliverables
  • Governance and initiation/maintenance deliverables.
  • Procurement support per ITS guidelines.
  • Communication and stakeholder management outputs.
  • Project artifacts (schedules, status reports, risk/issue logs, closeout docs, etc.).
  • WBS, resource/cost plans, schedule.
  • Ad-hoc, weekly and monthly reporting.
  • Budget reporting (probable/actual, estimates, resource allocation).
  • Schedule documents and performance reports.
  • Risk analysis reports.
  • Steering Committee and stakeholder presentations.
  • Project and product meeting materials.
  • Closeout documentation and other required project documents.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$90.00 and CA$105.00
