Senior Buyer / Material Coordinator

Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid)
Estimated Duration: 12 Months

Position Overview

We are seeking a Material Coordinator to support the planning, procurement, tracking, and delivery of project materials for large-scale capital projects within the energy, pipeline, power, or industrial construction sectors.

This role is responsible for ensuring materials are identified, requisitioned, expedited, received, and delivered to the appropriate locations in alignment with project schedules. The Material Coordinator will work closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Logistics, Warehousing, Fabrication, and Construction teams to provide end-to-end material coordination throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will have experience in materials management, procurement, logistics, or supply chain operations within a project-driven environment and possess strong SAP and technical documentation skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop material ordering schedules based on project timelines and supplier lead times.
  • Review engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to identify required materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate material requirements with Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Construction teams.
  • Create purchase requisitions and inventory reservations within SAP.
  • Support RFQ and procurement processes by ensuring timely delivery of engineering and material requirements.
  • Monitor material status, availability, and delivery schedules to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Work with suppliers, expeditors, and logistics teams to proactively address material delays, shortages, or damages.
  • Track and maintain material status reports, including quantities, locations, and expected delivery dates.
  • Coordinate material receipt, storage, transfer, and release activities between warehouses, fabricators, and project sites.
  • Process goods receipts and maintain accurate material records within SAP.
  • Support documentation management, including material certifications and Material Test Records (MTRs).
  • Resolve material discrepancies related to quality, quantity, or supporting documentation.
  • Identify surplus materials and coordinate inventory transfers or recovery opportunities.
  • Provide material-related support and documentation to field construction teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in material coordination, procurement, logistics, supply chain, or materials management within a project environment.
  • Experience supporting projects in the oil & gas, pipeline, power generation, utilities, EPC, or industrial construction industries.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and material management processes.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and supporting multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Experience using SAP for purchasing, requisitioning, inventory management, or goods receipt transactions.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with piping materials, valves, fittings, and mechanical equipment.
  • SAP Materials Management (MM) experience.
  • Experience with material expediting and logistics coordination.
  • Familiarity with Material Test Records (MTRs) and construction documentation.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.

The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is between $35.00 and $35.00
