Job Title: Discipline Lead – Electrical and I&C Engineering

Estimated Duration: 12 Months

Discipline Lead – Electrical / I&C

About the Opportunity

Our client, a nuclear power generating station in Ontario, is undertaking a rare multi-year greenfield capital build: a new water treatment facility being constructed on an active nuclear campus. To support this project through detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and turnover, our client is adding dedicated discipline-level technical leadership to their project team.
This is a project-side (owner's engineering) role — you will not be producing detailed design yourself (that is delivered by an external engineering design firm). Instead, you will represent the client's interests, review and challenge design deliverables, own technical decision-making for the electrical/I&C scope, and ensure the plant that gets built is safe, operable, maintainable, reliable, and aligned to project scope, schedule, and budget.

What You'll Do

  • Act as the project's subject matter lead for electrical, instrumentation, and control systems (power distribution, MCCs/switchgear/transformers/UPS, field instrumentation, PLC/DCS/SCADA, control panels, alarms/interlocks, communications/network interfaces).
  • Review and provide technical oversight of electrical/I&C design deliverables (single-line diagrams, load lists, cable schedules, instrument indexes, control narratives, cause & effect matrices) produced by the external design vendor.
  • Lead technical input on control architecture, instrumentation strategy, redundancy, and power supply arrangements.
  • Own scope adherence — validate that what's being designed matches committed project scope, flagging and pushing back on unnecessary scope creep.
  • Support procurement: technical scopes of work, bid evaluation, vendor drawing/panel/wiring review, and Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) participation, including travel to vendor sites (e.g., switchgear, MCCs, transformers).
  • Support installation, energization strategy, loop checks, SAT/FAT closeout, and startup readiness through commissioning and turnover.
  • Facilitate cross-functional technical workshops and decision meetings, bringing together design, operations, maintenance, commissioning, and construction stakeholders.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Control Systems, or Instrumentation Engineering, or related discipline; P.Eng. (or eligibility) preferred.
  • Proven experience delivering water treatment, process, or utility-scale industrial electrical/controls scope — spanning both design and hands-on construction/commissioning (not design-only).
  • Hands-on experience with power distribution, control system integration (PLC/DCS/SCADA), and industrial instrumentation.
  • Comfort operating as an independent technical authority in a multi-stakeholder, highly regulated environment; nuclear or other high-governance industrial experience is an asset.
  • A self-starter mindset — someone who drives technical decisions and stakeholder alignment rather than waiting to be directed.

Project Snapshot

  • Multi-year (~6-year) capital project, from current design phase through construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • High organizational visibility, with senior leadership actively engaged in project decisions.
  • Hybrid on-site model, with on-site frequency increasing as the project moves into detailed design and construction.
