The Assistant Vice-President, AI Governance and Standards will provide leadership across both enterprise AI governance and technical responsible AI controls, ensuring AI solutions are developed, deployed, and operated in a safe, compliant, and scalable manner. This role is accountable for defining and operationalizing AI governance frameworks, partnering with business and technology teams to embed controls across the AI lifecycle, and enabling a clear, efficient path for AI adoption through structured intake and oversight processes.

What You Will Do

  • Define and implement AI governance frameworks, policies, and standards covering the full AI lifecycle, including intake, development, validation, deployment, monitoring, and retirement.
  • Partner with engineering teams to design and operationalize technical controls, including model registry and inventory management, model observability, monitoring, risk classification, and auditability.
  • Define and maintain enterprise standards for Large Language Model (LLM) and AI model usage, including model selection, approved platforms, usage patterns (API vs. UI), and guardrails aligned with risk, privacy, and security requirements.
  • Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to define, enhance, and operationalize the enterprise AI intake, triage, and approval process.
  • Partner closely with Risk, Compliance, Legal, and Privacy teams to ensure AI governance practices align with regulatory expectations and internal policies.
  • Establish standards and guardrails for responsible AI, including bias mitigation, transparency, explainability, data governance, and human oversight.
  • Define governance reporting, metrics, and dashboards that provide visibility into AI portfolio risk, compliance, and overall performance.
  • Develop and enable a scalable AI governance operating model that is embedded into enterprise platforms, processes, and delivery practices.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on AI governance strategy, responsible AI practices, and emerging risks.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team focused on AI governance, standards, and responsible AI.

What You Will Bring

  • University degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in AI, data, or technology leadership roles with exposure to governance, risk management, compliance, or controls.
  • Strong understanding of AI governance, model risk management, responsible AI principles, and regulatory considerations.
  • Experience designing and implementing technical governance controls for AI systems, including model lifecycle management, monitoring, observability, and governance tooling.
  • Experience working within large, complex, regulated organizations and collaborating with cross-functional business and technology stakeholders.
  • Ability to bridge technology and governance by translating risk and regulatory requirements into practical, scalable technical controls.
  • Strong stakeholder management, executive communication, and influencing skills.
  • Experience establishing enterprise operating models, governance frameworks, and scalable processes.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to balance innovation, enablement, governance, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and staying current with AI governance, responsible AI, and emerging technologies.
