Job Title: DevOps Architect
Location: Markham, ON (Hybrid)
Estimated Duration: 3 Months
Reports To: Manager, Infrastructure & Security
About the Role
The enterprise is modernizing enterprise software delivery: consolidated CI/CD on GitHub Actions, embedded DevOps, and the foundation for AI-assisted engineering. We're hiring a Principal DevOps Architect to define the target-state platform and drive achieve alignment with internal Architecture team.
This is a senior individual-contributor role focused on architecture, standards, and modernization — not day-to-day operations or on-call.
Reports to: Manager, Infrastructure & Security
Key Responsibilities
DevOps Reference Architecture
- Define the enterprise DevOps reference architecture and platform standards.
- Build the internal developer platform: reusable GitHub Actions workflows, semantic versioning, trunk-based development standards, artifact promotion, self-service environment provisioning, and DORA-metric dashboards. Retire legacy tooling (Jenkins/CloudBees, Octopus Deploy) and consolidate on the modern stack.
DevSecOps & SOX Compliance
Embed shift-left security — SAST, SCA, secret scanning, SBOM generation, container scanning — into every strategic pipeline. Own SOX-aligned controls across GitHub Enterprise Cloud and Entra ID, including branch protections, PR approvals, and audit logging. Partner with external auditors (EY/KPMG) and internal SOX leads to maintain audit readiness and close any SOC gaps.
Regional Alignment
Align with regional teams on CI/CD, IaC (Terraform vs. AWS CDK), and governance. Deliver the framework assessment, standards matrix, and common tooling strategy that support a “build once, deploy everywhere” operating model.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years in DevOps, platform engineering, or enterprise architecture, including 5+ years in a regulated environment (SOX, SOC 2, HIPAA, or PCI).
- Track record leading enterprise CI/CD migrations and DevSecOps transformations.
- Deep hands-on experience with GitHub Enterprise Cloud, GitHub Actions, AWS (EKS/EC2/S3), Terraform, and Kubernetes.
- Strong grounding in Entra ID / SAML SSO, secrets management (Vault, AWS Secrets Manager), and shift-left security tooling.
- Executive communication — writes audit-ready ADRs, translates architecture into board-level decisions.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field — or equivalent experience.
Certifications:
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional, or AWS Solutions Architect – Professional
- Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert, or Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- GitHub Actions or GitHub Advanced Security Certification
