Senior Business Analyst – IT Performance Team (Contract)
Job Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst to join their IT Performance team on a contract basis.
The Senior Business Analyst will play a key role in delivering strategic analytics, data, and reporting initiatives that support investment decision-making, performance measurement, Total Portfolio Approach (TPA), and enterprise data initiatives.
Working closely with Investment Management, Risk, Finance, Data, and Technology teams, the successful candidate will lead business analysis activities for complex capital markets and investment data programs. This includes defining business requirements, documenting data and calculation logic, facilitating decisions across stakeholders, supporting solution design, and ensuring the successful delivery of enterprise-scale analytics solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Requirements
- Lead requirements gathering sessions with business and technology stakeholders.
- Elicit, analyze, document, and validate complex business requirements.
- Develop business requirements documents (BRDs), functional specifications, process flows, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Facilitate workshops to resolve conflicting business requirements and achieve stakeholder alignment.
- Translate business objectives into actionable technology solutions.
- Understand and document business calculation methodologies and data lineage.
- Extract and document business logic from existing Python scripts and translate technical logic into business requirements.
Data & Technology Initiatives
- Partner with Data Engineering and Technology teams to:
- Define source-to-target mappings.
- Document transformation rules.
- Support enterprise data models.
- Define data quality requirements.
- Support data governance activities.
- Analyze and reconcile data across multiple platforms and systems.
Testing & Delivery
- Develop test strategies, test scenarios, and business test cases.
- Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) execution and stakeholder sign-offs.
- Perform data validation and reconciliation activities.
- Support production implementations, deployments, and post-release validations.
What You Will Do
- Partner with business and IT stakeholders to gather and refine requirements, develop robust solutions, and support testing activities.
- Investigate production and support issues, coordinate with technical and business teams, and help drive resolutions.
- Work within an Agile delivery team, collaborating with developers, data engineers, and fellow business analysts to design and deliver solutions.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
- Support the Product Owner in developing and executing the product roadmap, prioritizing the backlog, and defining user stories.
- Manage stakeholder expectations through proactive communication and regular project updates.
Who You Are
- 8+ years of Business Analysis experience.
- Experience supporting investment management, capital markets, risk, performance measurement, portfolio analytics, or enterprise data initiatives.
- Experience delivering medium-to-large business and technology projects.
- Proven ability to work with senior business stakeholders and cross-functional technology teams.
- University degree in Finance, Business, Computer Science, Information Management, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of databases, business rules, software systems, data governance, and enterprise data architecture.
- Proven experience gathering, documenting, and managing business requirements.
- Strong SQL skills, including experience querying and analyzing data (Snowflake preferred).
- Experience reading and interpreting Python scripts to understand and document business logic; experience using Python for data analysis and validation is considered an asset.
- Experience with data management, investment systems, and business intelligence tools.
- Experience supporting UAT, production implementations, and data reconciliation activities.
Nice to Have
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
- Knowledge of SAP HANA, Snowflake, UC4, MFT, ORTEC PEARL, and SimCorp Dimensions (SCD).
- Experience with performance attribution, P&L, market valuations, asset valuations, or other investment performance analytics.
- Exposure to enterprise data transformation and data quality initiatives.
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$80.00 and CA$110.00
