Senior Innovation & Engineering Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to drive the development of innovative products and technologies for highly regulated industrial environments. This individual will oversee a portfolio of research and product development initiatives while providing technical leadership for multidisciplinary engineering programs from concept through implementation.
The successful candidate will work closely with business leaders, engineering teams, customers, and external partners to identify market opportunities, mature new concepts, and deliver commercially viable solutions. This position combines strategic innovation, technical leadership, and customer engagement within complex engineering programs.
Key Responsibilities
Innovation & Product Strategy

Lead the organization's portfolio of new product and technology initiatives.

Identify opportunities for new products through market research, customer engagement, and internal innovation.

Develop and advance concepts from initial idea through business case evaluation and execution.

Collaborate with leadership to ensure innovation activities align with long-term business objectives.

Champion research and development efforts that support future growth.

Participate in governance activities related to innovation investments and portfolio management.

Build strong relationships with customers and industry partners to understand emerging needs and technology trends.

Support strategic planning by evaluating market opportunities and recommending future product directions.
Technical Leadership

Provide engineering leadership across multidisciplinary design teams including mechanical, controls, instrumentation, electrical, and software disciplines.

Coordinate technical activities throughout the lifecycle of engineering projects and product development initiatives.

Establish technical direction while ensuring design quality, compliance, and consistency across programs.

Act as the primary technical representative for internal stakeholders, customers, and external partners.

Guide engineering teams through complex technical decisions using sound engineering principles and industry best practices.

Promote continuous improvement through adoption of new technologies, engineering processes, and design methodologies.

Mentor technical staff and encourage innovation, collaboration, and professional growth.
Project & Business Support

Prepare or review engineering documentation including technical reports, design evaluations, calculations, assessments, and other project deliverables.

Monitor project progress, communicate technical risks, recommend solutions, and escalate resource requirements when appropriate.

Provide overall technical leadership on major engineering projects as required.

Support proposal development through technical scope definition, estimating, solution development, and customer presentations.

Participate in customer meetings to present engineering solutions, product concepts, and strategic initiatives.

Coordinate activities with subcontractors and external engineering partners when required.
Qualifications
Required
-
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing.
-
15+ years of engineering experience within nuclear, aerospace, transportation, energy, or another highly regulated industry.

Minimum 10 years of technical expertise within a specialized engineering discipline.

Demonstrated experience leading complex engineering programs through the complete project lifecycle.

Experience developing new products, technology roadmaps, or research and development initiatives.

Strong background in systems engineering, requirements management, interface development, integration, and testing.

Experience working across multiple engineering disciplines including mechanical, electrical, controls, instrumentation, software, and manufacturing.

Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams without direct reporting authority.

Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder communication skills.

Strong analytical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.

Willingness to travel periodically to customer and project locations.
Preferred
-
Experience supporting engineering programs within the nuclear industry.

Knowledge of CANDU technologies or comparable nuclear reactor systems.

Familiarity with Canadian nuclear regulatory requirements and applicable engineering standards.

Working knowledge of CSA nuclear standards.

Understanding of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code requirements.

Experience bringing new technologies from concept through commercialization.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$115,000 and CA$145,000
