Senior Project Manager – Capital Markets

Position Overview

A leading Canadian financial institution is seeking a Senior Project Manager – Capital Markets to lead complex, high-visibility initiatives across the Capital Markets organization. This role will be responsible for managing end-to-end delivery of strategic and regulatory projects that support business growth, operational efficiency, technology modernization, risk management, and evolving business requirements.

The successful candidate will work closely with Capital Markets business leaders, Front Office, Technology, Operations, Risk, Compliance, and other enterprise stakeholders to drive initiatives from planning and requirements through execution, implementation, and transition into production.


Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Execution

  • Lead complex, cross-functional Capital Markets projects from initiation through implementation and closure.
  • Manage the full project lifecycle, including planning, scope, timelines, budgets, resources, dependencies, risks, issues, and deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, roadmaps, milestones, and delivery schedules.
  • Coordinate activities across Front Office, Technology, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Finance, and other business stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects remain aligned to business objectives, strategic priorities, and committed delivery timelines.
  • Identify delivery challenges and proactively develop mitigation and recovery plans.

Capital Markets Transformation

  • Lead business and technology initiatives supporting the evolution and modernization of Capital Markets platforms, processes, and operating models.
  • Partner with Front Office stakeholders, including Traders, Desk Heads, Managing Directors, and business leads, to understand priorities and translate them into actionable project plans.
  • Drive initiatives related to process optimization, platform enhancements, regulatory change, operational improvements, and technology transformation.
  • Support the implementation of new products, capabilities, processes, and technology solutions across Capital Markets.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, controls, and the overall client and user experience.

Stakeholder & Executive Management

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior business and technology stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to project sponsors and senior leadership on delivery strategy, risks, dependencies, and business impacts.
  • Facilitate steering committees, working groups, project meetings, and governance forums.
  • Prepare executive-level status reporting, presentations, dashboards, and decision materials.
  • Drive alignment across stakeholders with competing priorities and ensure timely resolution of escalated issues.
  • Communicate complex project information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Ensure projects adhere to enterprise project management standards, governance frameworks, policies, and controls.
  • Identify, assess, monitor, and proactively manage project risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies.
  • Ensure appropriate regulatory, compliance, risk, and control considerations are incorporated into project planning and execution.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, governance materials, decision logs, and status reporting.
  • Coordinate with Risk, Compliance, Audit, and other control functions where required.
  • Ensure appropriate testing, implementation, change management, and operational readiness activities are completed prior to deployment.

Delivery Methodology & Continuous Improvement

  • Apply Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery methodologies based on project requirements and organizational standards.
  • Establish appropriate delivery practices, governance structures, and reporting mechanisms for each initiative.
  • Drive continuous improvement across project delivery, stakeholder engagement, and governance processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project execution, transparency, accountability, and operational effectiveness.
  • Support portfolio-level prioritization, capacity planning, and strategic investment discussions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years of experience managing complex projects or programs within banking, Capital Markets, financial services, or another highly regulated environment.
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale, cross-functional business and technology initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of Capital Markets products, processes, operating models, or technology environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects involving multiple business and technology teams, competing priorities, and complex dependencies.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery approaches.
  • Proven experience managing executive stakeholders and facilitating governance and steering committee forums.
  • Strong understanding of risk management, regulatory requirements, governance, and controls within financial services.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, facilitation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently, navigate ambiguity, and drive initiatives to successful completion.
  • PMP, PgMP, Agile, or related project management certifications considered an asset.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working within a large Canadian bank or Capital Markets environment.
  • Experience partnering directly with Front Office stakeholders, including Traders, Desk Heads, Managing Directors, and senior business leaders.
  • Experience delivering initiatives across Global Markets, Investment Banking, Corporate Banking, Wealth Management, or other Capital Markets functions.
  • Exposure to regulatory, risk, compliance, operational resilience, or enterprise transformation initiatives.
  • Experience with technology modernization, platform implementations, data initiatives, process transformation, or operating model changes.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects within a fast-paced Capital Markets environment.
  • Strong understanding of the interdependencies between Front Office, Operations, Technology, Risk, and Compliance.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$105.00 and CA$115.00
