Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to support the design, analysis, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure and structural systems for nuclear and commercial projects.
This position will be responsible for the design and analysis of safety-related and non-safety-related structures while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have advanced civil and structural engineering experience, strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards, and the ability to complete complex technical work with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and analyze safety-related and non-safety-related structures for nuclear and commercial projects.
- Perform advanced engineering calculations using traditional methods and finite element analysis.
- Conduct foundation, structural frame, seismic, impact, and specialized FEA analyses.
- Develop and review civil layouts, foundation details, structural steel details, and architectural features.
- Support the design of containment structures, reactor buildings, and supporting systems using reinforced concrete, structural steel, and composite materials.
- Prepare and approve engineering design documents and plant modifications.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, mechanical, nuclear, electrical, and operations teams.
- Ensure designs comply with regulatory requirements, project specifications, licensing requirements, industry standards, and approved procedures.
- Review engineering documents and design packages for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Work with designers and manufacturers to develop engineering models and drawings.
- Identify and resolve equipment, system, and structural design issues.
- Recommend equipment, design concepts, and techniques that improve performance, reduce costs, simplify designs, or address regulatory changes.
- Support the installation and testing of site systems and components.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Manage assigned work according to project schedules and initiate corrective action when delays occur.
- Perform work independently with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Previous nuclear industry experience- Commercial Nuclear Preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant civil or structural engineering experience.
- Advanced knowledge of civil and structural design principles.
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics and strength of materials.
- Experience completing complex technical calculations and engineering analyses.
- Familiarity with applicable industry standards and design codes, including ASME, ACI, ASCE, and AISC.
- Experience working with designers and manufacturers to develop engineering models and drawings.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission or other regulatory authorities.
- Professional Engineer license.
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience with seismic and impact-based dynamic analyses.
- Experience in geotechnical or geophysical engineering.
- Experience with modular design development for structures, systems, and components.
- Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Tekla, or Revit.
The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is between $80.00 and $130.00
