Job Description
The role is within the Market Risk Control team and is responsible for supporting the risk management activities of the US Prime Services business. The successful candidate will contribute to the identification, monitoring, and mitigation of counterparty market and credit risk arising from Prime Brokerage client activity.
This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound risk judgment, and the ability to leverage data, technology, and automation to support effective risk management decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Management & Portfolio Oversight
Monitor Prime Brokerage client portfolios and identify emerging market, credit, concentration, liquidity, and counterparty risks.
Apply sound risk judgment to day-to-day risk management situations, escalating material issues and recommending appropriate risk mitigation measures.
Assist with the oversight of margin, collateral, and risk management processes to ensure alignment with client’s risk policies and risk appetite.
Assess the impact of market events and stress scenarios on client exposures and portfolio risk profiles.
Risk Analytics & Reporting
Prepare risk dashboards, portfolio analytics, and management reporting for senior management, risk committees, and regulatory discussions.
Analyze portfolio exposures and emerging risk trends, supporting enhancements to risk monitoring, stress testing methodologies, margin frameworks, and risk management practices.
Contribute to the development and implementation of risk management policies, controls, and infrastructure improvements.
Data, Automation & Innovation
Utilize data analytics, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve risk monitoring, reporting efficiency, and decision-making processes.
Work with large and complex datasets from multiple internal and external sources to support risk analysis, portfolio monitoring, and business insights.
Identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency through automation, workflow optimization, and strengthened controls.
Partner with Technology and Data teams to develop analytical solutions and improve the firm's risk management capabilities.
Stakeholder Management
Collaborate closely with Front Office, Operations, Credit Risk, Market Risk, Legal, Compliance, Technology, and Project teams.
Communicate risk issues, recommendations, and analytical findings effectively to stakeholders across varying levels of seniority.
Participate in business, regulatory, and strategic initiatives impacting the Prime Brokerage platform.
Functional Responsibilities
Quantitative Analytics & Development (33%)
Develops and maintains quantitative risk analytics, reporting infrastructure, and data solutions supporting market and credit risk management across cash and synthetic prime brokerage businesses. Designs and maintains a proprietary Python-based analytics library used to aggregate and transform data from multiple platforms, enabling scalable reporting and risk monitoring. Performs quantitative analysis, methodology validation, statistical testing, and framework enhancements supporting margin methodologies, stress testing, concentration risk measurement, and policy implementation.
Market Risk Oversight (33%)
Provides independent oversight of market risk exposures across cash and synthetic prime brokerage portfolios at both the position and counterparty level. Monitors portfolio risk, investigates limit breaches and emerging risk trends, evaluates margin adequacy and stress testing results, and provides risk assessments and recommendations to management. Supports governance and policy adherence through ongoing review of concentrations, exposure changes, and early warning indicators.
Business Analysis & Technology Delivery (33%)
Serves as the primary liaison between risk stakeholders and technology teams for strategic risk reporting and analytics initiatives. Translates complex risk management requirements into detailed business and functional specifications, leads user acceptance testing, validates methodology implementation and data quality, and supports end-to-end solution delivery. Develops rapid prototypes that address immediate business needs while establishing the foundation for enterprise-scale technology solutions.
MUST-HAVE Hard Skills:
- 5+ years of experience (flexible with 2+ years) in market risk, counterparty credit risk, margin, collateral management, Prime Brokerage risk, or a related capital markets function (any 1 of these)
- Strong understanding of capital markets products and risk management concepts, including equities, fixed income securities, derivatives, and financing transactions (any 1 of these)
- Strong Python, SQL programming
SOFT SKILLS:
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk exposures and make sound recommendations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively across business and functional teams.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities and deadlines.
NICE-TO-HAVE
- CFA or FRM certifications
- Experience participating in regulatory, technology, or business transformation initiatives involving multiple stakeholders
The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is between $50.00 and $59.00
