Job Description
The Electrical Engineer III is responsible for executing Electrical Systems engineering assignments on new construction projects at our clients Shipyards.

Under the direction of the Manager, Electrical Systems, or their delegate, the Electrical Systems Engineer participates in all phases of new construction design projects including requirements decomposition, design preparations, supporting analysis, material selection and specification, engineering execution, and engineering close-out activities.  

Duties / Accountabilities

• Provides engineering and design support in assigned areas of Electrical and Electronic Systems by preparing design and calculation packages to ensure contract design requirements are met. 
• Develops design documents for fisheries, icebreaking, and naval replenishment vessels in order to achieve customer, Classification Society, and regulatory approval. 
• Performs trade studies both formal and informal to determine the most efficient solutions to engineering problems and meet material budgets for systems assigned. Find opportunities to reduce material costs below budget. 
• Develops material specifications and bills of material in accordance with our client’s material strategies and customer requirements. 
• Represents the company to industry to develop understanding of our clients involvement in FFR and continue to build our reputation. 

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering or Naval Architecture discipline. Master’s degree desirable.
• Professional Engineer or Incorporated Engineer designation with a recognized, accredited institution.
• 5+ years of post-secondary progressively senior experience in Engineering, preferably with knowledge of ship/maritime systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience working with a diversely integrated project team is considered an asset.
• P.Eng. registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, or E.I.T. status with eligibility to apply for P.Eng. registration within one year, is preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, and Required Competencies

• Technical knowledge and engineering skills, including use of analysis tools and knowledge of analytical methods.
• Analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as a key part of the collective analysis/synthesis process.
• Technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
• Knowledge of MRP, purchasing and management systems is preferred.
• Understanding of CADMATIC, ShipConstructor and AutoCAD software, document control systems and databases.
• Ability to work effectively across a multi-disciplined team.
• Critical thinker with the ability to analyze change requests, projects, and designs to anticipate schedule or budget risk.
• Ability to work without supervision and provide technical guidance on testing, evaluating and improving engineering outcomes.
• Organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Committed to a high standard of safety and able to follow all safety laws and all the employer's safety policies and rules.
• Proficient computer skills. Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
