Job Title: Analyst, Enterprise Data Governance
Location: 3 days onsite (airport)
Position Type: 6-month contract (likely conversion)
Job Summary:
The Data Governance Analyst is responsible for implementing data governance framework and creating procedures to improve data quality, data discoverability, and data sharing in compliance to data privacy requirements. In this role, the candidate will work closely with technology and the data community to catalogue data assets that supports operational, analytical, and reporting processes. As a member of the Data Governance team, this role will collaborate with various partners across the enterprise to further the maturation of Data Governance through data literacy and data risk mitigation. The candidate will create, implement and oversee new governance processes, workflows, data governance and data management compliance metrics and privacy metrics.
Key Accountabilities:
Data Governance Strategy (10%)
- Support stakeholders by providing guidance on the implementation of data policy and standards to the data community (data owners, data stewards, data analysts, and data scientists)
- Engage with stakeholders to implement data governance objectives and metrics to measure the effectiveness of the data governance program.
- Support and advise business stakeholders on data governance and data management practices related to new and existing data assets.
Implementation of the Data Governance Framework (50%)
- Engage with stakeholders to implement data governance, data management objectives, metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of the data governance program
- Collaborate with data stewards to update and maintain metadata repositories and data catalogue
- Assist data stewards to develop and maintain business data quality rules for the critical data elements within their data assets
- Update and communicate data governance standards, guidelines and training material related to data governance and data management
- Provide guidance and support to stakeholders on data governance principles, practices, and tools.
- Create procedures that facilitate the implementation of the data policy and standards
- Engage with stakeholders to assist with instituting data governance processes and procedures on an ongoing basis
- Institute appropriate workflows to facilitate approval, rejection of access to or data governance related items
Data Security and Privacy (25%)
- Ensure that proper security classification is in place for sensitive data elements to mitigate the risk of unauthorized data access in compliance with government and the regulatory requirements
- Facilitate data sharing across the organization in a manner that is secure, consistent and complies with data policy and standards
- Work with technology to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place when sharing sensitive or PII data externally
Stakeholder Engagement (10%)
- Engage with stakeholders in the creation of data quality dashboards to support the data governance monitoring and oversight mandate
- Improve adoption of data governance practices by participating in data governance councils, forums and working groups
- Ensure issues raised by the data governance leaders are resolved to meet business objectives
- Support stakeholders and the data community on data governance and data management issues
- Execute flawlessly by clearly defining what expectations and success looks like to foster a positive, healthy and safe work environment, in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations
Other (5%)
- Champion data governance by actively contributing to the Data Governance and Data Management portal promoting data governance practices
Qualifications:
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as Library and Information Sciences, Data Management, Information Systems, Library and Information Sciences, or Business Administration
Experience:
Minimum:
- 4-6 years of experience in data management or data governance role, data quality management, or a related field,
- 3+ years development procedures, workflows and metrics related to data governance implementation practice for a large organization
- Proven experience in implementing and managing data catalogues, automation of data quality processes, metadata management, regulatory frameworks
- Experience in configuring, updating data governance tools (Purview, Collibra, Ataccama, Informatica, etc.) to register data assets and users
- Experience in creating and maintaining custom classifications in (Purview, Collibra, Ataccama, Informatica, etc.)
- Experience in creating and maintaining data quality rules
- Ability to read and interpret data lineage diagrams
Preferred:
- 5+ years implementing enterprise data/information governance using modern data governance tools (Purview, Collibra, Informatica, etc.) in multi-cloud environments
- Demonstrable experience in deploying data governance and data management tools (Purview, Collibra, Ataccama, Informatica etc.) in a large enterprise
- Associated or member of industry associations for data governance (DGPO, DAMA, DGPO, etc.)
Certifications / Designations/ Licenses (Specific licenses, technical or professional qualifications or certifications/designation)
Preferred:
Relevant certifications or equivalent are recommended, such as:
- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP),
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP),
- Data Discovery & Governance Professional (One Trust),
- Certifications in Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US),
- Information Privacy Manager (CIPM),
- Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT),
Skills / Knowledge
- Technical understanding of data warehouses, data lakes, data marts concepts, ETL best practices, and data lifecycle (ingestion, transformation, modeling, orchestration, storage, visualization)
- Strong expertise in data management, a deep understanding of data governance practices and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Strong understanding of current and potential government legislation that could impact how organization manage and use data
- Demonstrated understanding of data privacy laws that could impact the airport, such as PIPEDA, CCSPA, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and across the diverse experiences and perspectives of business leaders, data stewards, data analysts, data scientists, and IT teams
- Outstanding cross-functional partnership and communication skills, including proven success working with legal, regulatory compliance, and risk management teams to successfully implement an enterprise data governance framework
- Proven ability and desire to understand business challenges and opportunities and identify opportunities where data governance can help solve business challenges
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$50.00 and CA$60.00
