Job Summary

The AutoCAD Technician (Draftsperson/Designer) will support the client by updating, reviewing, and organizing technical drawings across federal correctional facilities within the Prairie region. This 2-year contract role focuses on modernizing existing floor plans, reviewing legacy documentation, and ensuring all drawings meet updated standards and technical requirements.

This is an intermediate drafting role requiring strong AutoCAD skills, the ability to work independently, and experience supporting engineering, architectural, or construction-based projects. The position offers exposure to a wide range of secured federal facilities, autonomy in day-to-day work, and involvement in long-term modernization initiatives.


Job Responsibilities

  • Update, revise, and maintain facility drawings and floor plans using AutoCAD.

  • Review legacy drawings, confirm accuracy with project managers and engineers, and apply updated design standards.

  • Organize, categorize, and classify drawing files to maintain clean document management and version control.

  • Troubleshoot AutoCAD setups and resolve drafting issues independently.

  • Ensure drawing updates meet current technical, architectural, and engineering standards.

  • Support construction, renovation, and infrastructure projects across 13 correctional facilities and multiple parole offices.

  • Assist in completing modernization initiatives related to technology changes and documentation updates.

  • Collaborate with a drafting team (including a dedicated CAD technician), the hiring manager, project engineers, and project managers.


Job Qualifications

Minimum Requirements 
Candidates must have experience in drafting or illustrating, including the use of drafting instruments, tools, techniques, and industry practices. Qualifications require a minimum of 3 years of experience, obtained through one of the following pathways:

  • Successful completion of approved post-secondary training in a related specialization; or

  • Successful completion of secondary school with related experience; or

  • Considerable hands-on experience in drafting or a related technical discipline.

Specializations (Accepted Backgrounds)
Experience in any of the following specializations is applicable:

  • Electromechanical drafting

  • Architectural drafting

  • Illustration

  • Commercial art

  • Graphic art

  • Photogrammetry

  • Design

  • Any other discipline directly related to the requirements of this role

 

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$35.00 and CA$50.00
