Position Title: Cloud Engineer
Location: Toronto, ON
Duration: 10 months
             
Story Behind the Need:
Business group: Hosted Cloud Services
Project: The role of the Cloud Engineer operates within the Cloud Engineering team. This valuable member of the team will be responsible for creating platform components and services for the broad enterprise use. Key accountabilities include development and maintenance of cloud platforms, services, and components to enable safe enterprise-wide use of common cloud functionality.

Typical Day in Role:

  • Designing, implementing, and refactoring code.
  • Participating in design discussions focused on scalability, design, and implementation best practices.
  • Ensuring software, programs, and applications are developed and/or configured to meet high availability, integrity, and reliability requirements.
  • Working with other lead engineers and architects on designing solutions and breaking-down, scoping, and estimating tasks.
  • Participate in planning and retrospective sessions, attending stand-ups, etc.
  • Be able to build and operate scalable software and infrastructure.

Candidate Requirements/Must-Have skills:

  • 5+ years’ relevant work experience, 3+ years’ experience in cloud platform/components/services development
  • Strong development experience with Hashicorp Terraform Enterprise/Cloud, specifically with creating modules using HCL
  • Experience with VCS tools such as Github
  • Experience with Policy-as-Code development for Hashicorp Sentinel and OPA (Rego).
  • Full understanding of software development life cycle as well as related technologies.
  • Proven experience in cloud development (Google GCP, Microsoft Azure).
  • Understanding of software release process (environments, binary repositories, CI/CD).

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  • Experience with CI/CD tools such Jenkins and Azure DevOps
  • Experience with Configuration Management tool such as Ansible and Salt
  • Knowledge of software design patterns, infrastructure architecture, DevOps, and security considerations.

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to solve ambiguous and typically novel problems that require team effort
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken; of specific importance is strong communication to a technical audience.
  • Attention to detail with high standards for quality.

Best vs. Average Candidate:

  • A self-starter with a strong sense of personal accountability and team responsibility.
  • Detail oriented, analytical and capable of investigating complex / technical issues and provide alternative solutions, project & production methodologies.

Education:

  • Post-secondary education in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related IT field is an asset.

Candidate Review & Selection

  • 1st round MS Teams video interview – Hiring Manager (30 minutes)
  • 2nd round – In person interview is a must – Panel (1 hour)
  • The interviews with assess both soft skills (situational questions) and technical skills (discuss how the candidate has utilized specific technologies)

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$70.00 and CA$80.00
