Job Title: Construction Estimator

Location: North York, ON (Hybrid)
    
Estimated Duration: 24 Months


 
The Estimators will report to the Client's Commercial Manager and work closely with the Commercial Management team members, the Engineering staff and third-party Consultants as required. The Services to be provided by the Estimators will include but are not limited to the following assignments and tasks:
 
  • Preparing order-of-magnitude, conceptual, feasibility, pre-development, value engineering, control, definitive, Engineer’s, major change orders, claims analysis and budget estimates for contracts administered by PCM;
  • Preparing the above-described cost estimates for buildings, structures, utilities, mechanical, electrical systems, operating system elements related to rapid transit for new construction, repair and renovation projects;
  • Reviewing quotes/invoices submitted by contractors/sub-trades/suppliers for changes issued by Client or proposed by contractor/supplier
  • Providing support to Commercial Management & Senior Contract Administrator in reviewing / finalizing changes implemented during construction.
  • Prepares various types of cost estimates by:
  • Performing detailed analyses of contract specifications and drawings to identify errors, discrepancies, and/or ambiguities
  • Preparing an itemized list of contract payment items as cost breakdowns, price schedules, and upon which interim contract payments are predicated.
  • Preparing detailed quantity surveys for all trades from contract drawings and specifications
  • Costing construction items based on database information.
  • Preparing “basis of estimate” for inclusion into reports
  • Maintaining files and records of work performed
  • Perform other activities and tasks as assigned by the hiring manager

Skills/Knowledge/Experience

  • Proven skills in the application of practices and procedures involved in the estimating function are essential as is the preparation of estimates for all trades and disciplines involved in complex construction contracts.
  • Hands on experience in the preparation of estimates for construction contract changes.

 

  • Great attention to detail, and capable to perform tasks with great quality without close supervision.
  • Sound judgement; detail oriented; effective problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Well-developed analytical skills
  • Proficient in the use of a personal computer and related software applications relevant to the work
  • Good understanding of technical matters related to engineered products/equipment, construction services and engineering/construction issues including sources for material supplies and services
  • Good understanding of Construction Act
  • Knowledge of construction practices, codes, and regulations
  • Knowledge of union and trade agreements
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks in an effective manner
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current construction principles
  • Ability to perform quantity take-offs from construction drawings and produce estimates for varying trade disciplines
  • Have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.

Formal education/training through which skills normally acquired:
University Degree or College Diploma in a related discipline, or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed to be equivalent combined with demonstrated experience performing estimating duties for construction contracts.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$50.00 and CA$90.00
