Estimated Duration: 12 Months
Overview
Hybrid: 2 days a week onsite
Type: Contract-to-hire
We are seeking a senior, hands-on Data Engineer to join a data and AI-focused engineering team within a large enterprise environment. This is a pure development role—ideal for someone who spends the majority of their time building, not coordinating.
You will work on data-centric and AI/LLM-driven use cases, while helping the team evolve toward a highly automated, low-touch engineering ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
1. AI-Driven Call Analytics & Agent Scoring (30–40%)
- Build and enhance data pipelines that ingest audio data from call center platforms
- Develop AI/ML and LLM-driven components to analyze conversations and score agent performance
- Generate structured outputs that provide actionable insights to the business
2. Data Engineering & Automation (60–70%)
- Design and develop reusable data engineering components using Python and PySpark
- Build solutions that automate the data development lifecycle, reducing manual effort
- Contribute to the transition from supervised workflows to low-touch / unsupervised systems
- Create scalable components that can be leveraged across teams and use cases
3. End-to-End Solution Design
- Own full lifecycle development—from concept to deployment
- Define data flows, transformations, and system integrations
- Break down complex problems into clear, executable steps (step 1, step 2, step 3)
- Design solutions with reusability, scalability, and enterprise integration in mind
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with internal teams including:
- Azure Platform Team
- Data/Middleware Engineering Teams
- AI/LLM Governance Team
- Business Stakeholders
- Operate as a lead developer on initiatives, especially in a lean onsite environment
- Balance limited meetings (~2 hours/day) with a strong focus on development
Must-Have Hard Skills
- 10+ years of backend/data engineering development experience
- Strong expertise in:
- Python
- PySpark
- Proven experience working with LLMs (Large Language Models) and agent-based AI solutions
- Strong experience in data engineering, data platforms, or AI/ML use cases
- Experience with Microsoft Azure (data and platform services)
- Experience with orchestration/workflow tools (Airflow, Azure Data Factory, etc.)
- Exposure to legacy technologies (Oracle, SQL Server, Mainframe)
Domain Experience (Strongly Preferred)
- Background in banking or financial services environments
- Understanding of data security, governance, and regulatory constraints
- (Clear awareness of what can and cannot be done with data in a regulated environment)
Nice-to-Have
- AI/ML or Data Science certifications
- Strong data science background with hands-on engineering experience (Python, PySpark)
- Experience building reusable platforms or shared engineering components
- Experience in other data-heavy industries with ability to adapt to banking
Soft Skills & Mindset (Critical for Success)
- Strong communicator (verbal and written) able to explain technical concepts clearly
- Highly independent – able to self-serve tools, documentation, and solutions with minimal hand-holding
- Analytical, big-picture thinker – understands the “why” and can map out end-to-end solutions
- Builder mindset – focused on writing code and delivering working solutions
- Collaborative team player who contributes ideas and drives technical discussions
- Comfortable working in an AI-assisted, open-book environment (leveraging LLMs, GPTs, and other tools)
