Overview
Seeking an experienced Data Modeler to lead the transformation of traditional financial data systems into modern, cloud-based solutions leveraging Microsoft Azure and Databricks. The successful candidate will architect and optimize data models to power regulatory compliance, analytics, and innovation for a highly regulated financial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for financial transaction, risk, and compliance data on cloud-based platforms (Databricks, Azure Synapse, Data Lake Storage).
- Analyze legacy relational and mainframe systems to strategize and execute phased migrations to cloud environments.
- Collaborate with data architects, cloud engineers, and business units to align new models with operational requirements and regulatory standards (AML, PCI, PII).
- Translate compliance and governance requirements into robust metadata, lineage, and data quality controls using Azure, Unity Catalog, IBM CP4D or similar tools.
- Support the creation of scalable and secure ETL/ELT data pipelines in Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, and Databricks Workspace.
- Apply advanced modeling for data lakehouse architectures, integrating structured and unstructured data for analytics and AI workloads.
- Ensure financial data models conform to audit trails, reporting, and operational resilience standards (OSFI).
- Participate in design reviews, documentation, and quality validation in cross-functional agile teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
- 5+ years experience designing models within financial services or regulated environments.
- Deep expertise in relational, dimensional, and big data/noSQL modeling for financial risk, transactions, and compliance use cases.
- Hands-on expertise with Databricks Lakehouse Platform (including Delta Lake, Databricks SQL, MLflow).
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Azure data tools: Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Gen2, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL DB, and Purview.
- Proficient in ER modeling tools (ERwin, Lucidchart, dbt, etc.) and strong SQL skills.
- Experience with data governance, metadata automation, and regulatory controls for financial data migration.
- Effective communicator with strong documentation and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Preferred Skills
- Databricks and/or Microsoft Azure certifications (Data Engineer, Solutions Architect).
- Python and PySpark programming for pipeline and ETL automation.
- Knowledge of CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, Databricks Repos) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/ARM/Bicep templates).
- Prior success enabling business intelligence, model risk management, or compliance reporting for financial institutions.
The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$85,000 and CA$106,000
