Our client's Mining & Metals (M&M) team in Canada is made up of more than 400 employees who work on large-scale projects to support mining sustainability, pit-to-port opportunities, metallurgical plant engineering, or mine closure and capabilities in the study, design, and construction of mining projects across a wide range of mining and processing methods and commodities. The team combines global-caliber expertise to provide tailored solutions for projects of any size, scope, or complexity.
Our client is seeking Director of Mine Permitting to join their Canadian Operations. Applying previous leadership, market experience, and industry profile the ideal candidate will be leading a team of professionals in sustaining and growing its business and providing high quality services in mine water related services.
As the Director of Mine Permitting, the ideal candidate will report to the VP of Tailings, Water, and Environment, North America and will lead the team’s strategic planning, growth, team development, and provide technical leadership across Canada. The Mine Permitting service offering includes coordination of numerous disciplines throughout the mining lifecycle.
Your role within the team:
- Lead and grow the mining permitting business across the mining sector for new, operating, and legacy mine projects.
- Identify/anticipate/evaluate and report on market trends, opportunities, and industry dynamics.
- Identify resource gaps in the team and attract/retain key staff to the team
- Guide technical team in successful project delivery applying industry leading best practices related to mining e.g., Environmental Assessment Act, Mining association of Canada (MAC), Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) best practices, Canadian Dam Association (CDA), Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), as well as applying applicable local, provincial and federal regulations to solutions
- Apply extensive knowledge and experience in permitting and environmental compliance including but not limited to impact assessment, permitting, ecology, air and acoustics, geochemistry, hydrology, regulatory affairs, tailings management, geomorphology, hydrotechnical engineering, hydrogeology, climate change and asset resilience, water treatment
The ideal candidate:
- Bachelor's Degree, or master’s degree, in engineering or science related discipline with a focus on mining
- Minimum 15 years’ relevant industry experience and demonstrated success in leading a team in managing permitting, environmental studies and/or waste related projects
- Strong understanding of the mine permitting services and drivers (e.g., regulatory requirements, market/political trends, client specific issues, stakeholder challenges)
- Proven experience applying provincial and federal regulations as well as best practices from other legislation.
- Highly experienced in mining issues and development of successful solutions from design through to closure

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$140,000 and CA$200,500
