Arc Flash Electrical Engineer

Position Summary:
This role focuses on managing and overseeing Arc Flash studies and assessments within industrial facilities. The primary responsibility will be ensuring compliance with electrical safety standards, conducting technical reviews, and coordinating Arc Flash studies with third-party firms. You will also be involved in the design and implementation of electrical system upgrades to mitigate Arc Flash hazards and optimize safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed technical reviews of Arc Flash studies and ensure compliance with relevant electrical safety standards (NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E).
  • Coordinate with third-party firms to oversee Arc Flash studies, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely completion.
  • Design electrical system upgrades and modifications to minimize Arc Flash risk and improve operational safety.
  • Analyze electrical systems, equipment (MCCs, transformers, switchgear), and layouts to assess Arc Flash hazards and recommend improvements.
  • Review and approve Arc Flash labels and ensure they are applied correctly across all systems.
  • Interface with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on safety objectives and compliance requirements.
  • Support project management teams in ensuring that Arc Flash safety measures are integrated into electrical design, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Provide root cause analysis for Arc Flash incidents or near-miss events and recommend corrective actions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 5-10 years of electrical design experience with a strong focus on Arc Flash safety in industrial facilities.
  • Deep knowledge of Arc Flash standards (NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584) and experience with electrical safety assessments.
  • Proficiency in Arc Flash and electrical modeling software (ETAP, EasyPower, SKM).
  • Strong understanding of NEC, IEC, and IEEE standards.
  • Proven ability to coordinate with third-party firms and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Valid driver’s license; travel 10-20% required.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Arc Flash studies in natural gas compressor stations or similar industrial facilities.
  • Familiarity with automation, instrumentation, and substation design.
  • Project management experience for safety-related electrical system projects.
