Senior Electrical Systems Engineer (Contract, 12 Months)
Location: Greater Toronto Area (hybrid) – 4 days on site
Duration: 12 months, extension likely, conversion possible
Clearance: Must be able to obtain and hold Government of Canada Reliability Status and pass Controlled Goods Program (CGP) assessment

About the Opportunity
Our client is a Canadian-based engineering organization delivering complex, highly regulated electro-mechanical systems for advanced technology programs. They are adding a Senior Electrical Systems Engineer to a small, senior technical team supporting flagship multi-year programs.

What You'll Do
You will sit at the front end and back end of the systems engineering lifecycle, depending on program assignment:

  • Develop specifications, requirements, and verification and validation (V&V) plans for electrical systems and avionics-class hardware
  • Own design, development, and verification of electrical systems from planning through execution
  • Perform trade studies, evaluate design alternatives, and justify selected architecture
  • Support integration and verification activities: reviewing test procedures and test reports, verifying requirements, and supporting design review closeout
  • Interface with mechanical, software, control systems, systems integration, and product assurance disciplines
  • Present technical content to internal leadership and external program stakeholders at design reviews and milestone meetings
  • Support proposal and costing activity related to electrical systems design
  • Provide technical direction to a small engineering team: coordinating work, resolving technical problems, and reporting status to the project team

What You Bring (Required)

  • 8 to 10+ years in electrical systems design or electrical engineering
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering, or Engineering Physics / Physics
  • Demonstrated system architecture, system development, and requirements development experience
  • Experience technically leading or overseeing an engineering team (not people management, but technical coordination and issue resolution)
  • Working knowledge across several of: digital design and firmware V&V, embedded mixed-signal systems, power systems, motor control, electro-optical design
  • Understanding of environmental requirements: EMC, radiation, thermal, structural
  • Strong written and verbal communication, comfortable presenting to demanding external stakeholders

Assets

  • Background in a formal systems engineering environment using V-model / V-cycle methodology
  • Electrical CAD and simulation tools: OrCAD, Altium, AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB, PSPICE
  • MS Excel, MS Visio, VBA, NI LabVIEW
  • Familiarity with electrical workmanship and quality standards
  • Experience designing or qualifying hardware for extreme or highly abrasive environmental conditions

Schedule: 40 hours per week compressed into 4 days, hybrid with work from home flexibility, core hours 9:00 to 3:00. No travel currently anticipated.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$70.00 and CA$80.00
