Job Title: Engineer I & II, Mechanical
Term: 12 months
Location: North Vancouver, BC (Onsite)

Job Description
Reporting to the Manager, Mechanical Engineering, the Engineer II is responsible for participating in all phases of new construction design projects including: requirements decomposition, design preparations, Supporting analysis, material selection and specification, engineering execution, and engineering close-out activities.

Duties/Accountabilities 

  • Provides engineering and design support for piping and auxiliary systems during vessel construction, integration, and testing phases.
  • Reviews and resolves production issues (e.g., system interferences, material substitutions, design deviations), ensuring compliance with engineering intent and regulatory standards.
  • Assesses design and calculation packages to confirm conformance with contract, class, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepares and updates technical documentation, including system drawings, redlines, and engineering change requests (ECRs).
  • Collaborates with production, planning, and quality teams to develop practical engineering solutions that maintain cost, schedule, and technical integrity.
  • Provides technical clarification and field support to production personnel and subcontractors on mechanical and piping systems.
  • Coordinates with vendors and suppliers to review technical data, resolve discrepancies, and ensure delivered equipment meets system and installation requirements.
  • Reviews third-party and internal designs for compliance with specifications, standards, and integration interfaces.
  • Performs and reviews calculations to validate the system design and compliance with the requirements.
  • Develops and maintains Bill of Materials (BOMs), ensuring part maturity, accuracy, and traceability in support of production and material procurement.
  • Supports testing and commissioning activities, including review of system test agendas, witnessing tests, and resolving punch list items.
  • Coordinates closely with other disciplines to manage system interfaces and resolve inter-disciplinary issues.
  • Liaises with internal clients, project leads, and production regarding system status, design maturity, and field issues.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Systems or Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 0-2 years for Level I, 3-4 years for Level II –  post-secondary experience working in the Mechanical Systems or Mechanical Engineering disciplines, Piping experience desired.
  • Previous Shipyard experience in New Ship Construction is desired.
  • Experience working with a diverse integrated project team is considered an asset.
  • P.Eng. designation is not required, however, Candidate must be able to register as EIT at the start of the contract.   

 
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to develop solutions to technical problems
  • Above average analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the collective analysis/synthesis process
  • Strong technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports
  • Knowledge of MRP, purchasing and management systems a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Naviworks, ShipConstructor and ACAD software, document control systems and databases desired
  • Good organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills including written, verbal, listening and presentation are required
  • Availability and willingness to travel to such locations and with such frequency as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
  • Committed to a high standard of safety and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the employer's safety policies and rules
  • PC proficiency required.  Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$38.00 and CA$66.00
