Environmental Technician

Our client works across several disciplines and industries to bring buildings, energy and resource, environmental, water, and infrastructure projects to life. Their work includes; engineering, architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, surveying, environmental sciences, construction services, project management, and project economics. Their expertise starts from initial project concept and planning through to design, construction, commissioning, maintenance, decommissioning, and remediation.

They are looking to hire an Environmental Technician for their Gulf Coast region.

Your Opportunity

Our client is seeking a qualified, energetic, self-motivated, and resourceful early career Ecologist to support their Natural Resource group as a Technician. Grow your career with a leading environmental consulting firm serving a wide variety of private, federal, state, and local government clients in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, and the surrounding region.

Your role will be to perform field work including species surveys, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, compliance monitoring, inspections, and technical support services. You will also write reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost-effective manner.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support data collection efforts for wetland delineations and wetland functional/conditional assessments under applicable agency regulations
  • Conduct vegetation inventories and monitoring
  • Conduct wildlife surveys and habitat assessments for listed species (migratory birds and threatened/endangered species)
  • Serve as a technician on field teams
  • Record, enter, organize, and analyze ecological/environmental data
  • Prepare report documentation and supporting materials for client and regulatory agency submittals
  • Travel to projects to perform field assessments throughout Stantec’s service area

Qualifications

  • An interest in ecosystems, natural resource conservation/restoration, and the outdoors is essential
  • The ability to solve problems using critical thinking and to complete tasks with consideration for their own and the team's safety is important
  • Knowledge of Texas and southeastern United States vegetation and species
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including exceptional MS Office skills
  • Strong note-taking skills and attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic with a demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Solid field skills including the ability to navigate in difficult terrain using aerial maps

 

Education and Experience

 

  • 1-3 years of related experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in wildlife biology, rangeland ecology, environmental science, forestry, botany, soil science, or a closely related natural resource field preferred.

The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is between $55.00 and $50,000
