Type: Permanent, full-time
Location: Greater Toronto Area preferred (hybrid). Open to other Ontario-based office locations for the right fit.

About the opportunity

We’re supporting a Canadian space and advanced-technology organization that delivers complex programs across robotics, satellite systems, and related mission-critical technology. This team operates in a highly regulated environment and is expanding their trade compliance capability to keep pace with program growth, cross-border work, and evolving regulations.

What you’ll do

Reporting into Trade Compliance, you’ll own day-to-day export controls execution while helping mature processes and tools across the business. You’ll partner closely with program teams to ensure permits, licenses, and authorizations are in place from early data release through shipment and delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Review and complete end-user documentation, permits, licenses, and related compliance records (Canada and international)

  • Support US re-export and retransfer authorizations for US-origin items through the appropriate agencies

  • Work directly with internal program stakeholders to confirm authorizations are secured at each contract stage

  • Administer the internal export controls system and workflows (permit applications, reporting conditions, advisory opinions, audits for accuracy)

  • Provide compliance guidance across Canadian and US regimes (ITAR/EAR, Controlled Goods, EIPA, etc.)

  • Maintain relationships with relevant government contacts and handle trade control inquiries professionally

  • Track and support export approvals (ex: technical assistance arrangements, export authorizations, and similar mechanisms)

  • Help develop, document, and improve export control and security-related processes

  • Support controlled access practices for regulated data and materials (including secure directories and segregation controls)

  • Deliver internal training to improve awareness and compliance across stakeholders

  • Identify and report compliance risks, trends, and mitigation actions to leadership

  • Support investigations, jurisdiction/classification reviews, and other compliance tasks as needed

What they’re looking for

  • 2+ years of experience in export controls / trade compliance (Canadian and/or US)

  • Post-secondary education in International Trade, Business/Commerce, Legal Studies, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Working knowledge of Canadian and US export controls (ITAR, EAR, Controlled Goods, EIPA)

  • Comfort navigating ambiguous scenarios and balancing compliance with operational delivery

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including interfacing with external parties

  • Organized, deadline-driven, and able to operate with minimal oversight

  • Exposure to anti-corruption and due diligence practices is an asset

  • Experience in aerospace, space, defense, or other regulated advanced manufacturing environments is an asset

  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances (Secret level) and Controlled Goods eligibility; ITAR-related screening as applicable
