About Us

Our client is a biotech startup based in Toronto’s MaRS Discovery District, transforming pharmaceutical development through integration of machine learning, robotics-driven automation, and advanced formulation science. As we enter an exciting new phase of growth, we’re looking for an experienced Director of Finance and Operations to join our leadership team and play a central role in scaling our business.

 

About the Role

This role is primarily finance-focused, with oversight of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning. You’ll work closely with other members of the leadership team to develop processes that support growth while ensuring financial health and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Finance

• Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with company goals.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Prepare and analyze financial reports to support decision-making.
• Manage financial planning & analysis and scenario modeling.
• Work with external advisors to ensure compliance with regulatory, tax, and audit requirements.
• Support fundraising efforts, including investor materials and due diligence.

Operations

• Work with teams to streamline operational processes and drive efficiency.
• Oversee vendor management, procurement, and contract negotiations.
• Implement scalable financial and operational systems.
• Improve workflows to support a fast-growing business.

Leadership & Strategy

• Provide financial insights to guide business decisions.
• Build and manage a small finance and operations team.
• Monitor market trends and business performance.
• Contribute to long-term planning, including risk and resource management.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in finance, preferably in a startup or high-growth environment.
• Strong financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management skills.
• Proficiency in accounting software and financial modeling tools.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
• Experience working with investors, fundraising, or venture capital is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (MBA, CPA, or CFA is a bonus).
