Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced HVAC Engineering Manager specializing in marine HVAC systems to lead the design, coordination, and delivery of HVAC solutions for complex marine projects. This senior role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership capability, and the ability to interface effectively with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams across shipbuilding and offshore environments.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Technical Leadership

  • Lead HVAC concept, basic, and detailed design activities for marine applications.
  • Develop and review HVAC system specifications, design deliverables, and technical documentation.
  • Oversee and validate:
  • Heat load calculations
  • Ventilation volume calculations
  • Noise and vibration calculations
  • Pressure drops calculations
  • Authenticating drawings (P.Eng).
  • Produce and review:
  • HVAC D&IDs, P&IDs, and one-line diagrams
  • HVAC Commissioning Test Memos
  • Test Procedures and Specifications (TPS)
  • Systems Integration & Software
  • Coordinate and integrate HVAC systems within deck areas and accommodation spaces (ACR) using 3D design tools.
  • Manage and review Vendor Furnished Information (VFI) for system integration and documentation control.
  • Review and advise on chiller plant and heating plant calculations.
  • Ensure full compliance with client specifications and applicable marine and regulatory standards.
  • Project Execution & Interface Management
  • Track, monitor, and report project progress, risks, and technical status.
  • Coordinate and oversee construction, commissioning, and operational optimization activities.
  • Lead HVAC interfacing across disciplines and manage technical coordination with shipyards, owners, classification societies, and suppliers.
  • Support equipment selection in consultation with clients and vendors.
  • Leadership & Mentorship
  • Lead and manage HVAC engineering resources, including mentoring junior HVAC designers and technicians.
  • Manage internal and external stakeholder expectations to ensure successful program delivery.
  • Regulatory & Industry Knowledge
    Apply and ensure compliance with marine industry regulations and standards, including but not limited to:
  •  
  • SOLAS
  • Lloyd’s Register (LR)
  • Other applicable class and flag-state requirements
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (University degree preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada or has EIT status and is eligible to complete P. Eng tests within 2 years.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior HVAC role within:
  • Major shipyards
  • Cruise vessels
  • Naval / Coast Guard projects
  • Offshore Oil & Gas or large-scale industrial construction
  • Additional Qualifications & Skills
  • Proven ability to perform effectively in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments with multiple concurrent priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a self-motivated and proactive mindset.
  • Ability to work within multi-disciplinary and multi-national teams.
  • High standards of accountability, integrity, and professional ethics.
  • Proficiency with:
  • Cadmatic HVAC
  • Load calculation software
  • AutoCAD
  • Demonstrated experience developing TPS documentation and managing VFI.
  • Willingness to travel internationally to support clients, shipyards, and suppliers as required.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$70.00 and CA$125.00
