Jr. Industrial Security Agent

The Position

Our client, a leading Canadian defence and advanced technology organization, is seeking a Jr. Industrial Security Agent to support projects from a government security compliance perspective. Reporting to the Manager, Security & Compliance, this individual will demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to anticipate risk to projects and timelines when navigating government security approvals, assessing project-specific security requirements, and communicating effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.

This role requires continuous improvement thinking, the ability to anticipate stakeholder needs, and a well-integrated knowledge of the government security and controlled goods community. The successful candidate will provide sound guidance to ensure regulatory compliance while enabling the business to meet its objectives, and will bring creative problem-solving to complex security challenges.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance across all aspects of applicable government contracts security and controlled goods programs
  • Prepare and maintain Project Security Plans outlining government security regulations specific to assigned programs, including liaison with relevant intelligence and law enforcement partners as required
  • Prepare reports on the status of government approvals related to IT processing security, physical security, document safeguarding, and related areas
  • Stay current on project evolution through attendance at internal and external reviews
  • Participate in the preparation of bids and proposal packages, supporting the full lifecycle from bid/no-bid decisions through to contract implementation and management
  • Monitor risks, escalate issues, and propose action plans and solutions
  • Advise on project physical security requirements to ensure facilities meet applicable government security guidelines
  • Assist with government inspections as required, including physical security, document safeguarding, classified processing, communications security, and controlled goods
  • Administer documentation related to visit clearance requests and oversee procedures for internal visitors, including tracking all incoming and outgoing visits with identification of each visitor's access requirements (physical and IT systems)
  • Coordinate the tracking, storage, and delivery of outgoing and incoming classified documentation and information
  • Advise on, develop, and implement Security Requirement Check Lists (SRCLs) for specific projects
  • Provide ongoing training and awareness to personnel regarding applicable government security programs
  • Establish and maintain resource lists to ensure all personnel are appropriately cleared based on their role
  • Perform regular audits to verify adherence to all government security program requirements
  • Liaise with contractors working on security equipment and ensure contractual conformity of their work
  • Act as Alternate Company Security Officer (ACSO) when the primary CSO is unavailable
  • Flexibility of hours required, including on-call availability after hours as needed
  • Other related duties as required

Job Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 6 months of experience in an ACSO and/or CSO role
  • Full understanding of, and demonstrated experience with, Canadian government contracts security and controlled goods regulatory frameworks
  • University or college degree in business administration, law enforcement, IT security, or a related field is an asset
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work across all levels of an organization and with external stakeholders
  • Ability to liaise across multiple departments toward a common goal
  • Capable of managing multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously
  • Sound judgment and ability to handle complex security screening files
  • Deadline-oriented, flexible, and able to work effectively under pressure
  • Bilingualism is an asset

Special Considerations

Successful candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain security clearance at the Reliability Status level and pass security assessments under applicable controlled goods and export control programs.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$25.00 and CA$30.00
