Job Description
The Liaison Engineer Structural-Outfitting is responsible for evaluating and resolving engineering-related production problems encountered in assigned construction areas at our client’s shipyard, particularly related to hull structure, naval architecture, class inspection, outfitting design and issues. Under the direction of the Liaison Engineering Senior Manager, Liaison Engineering Lead and Project Manager, the position supports operations for production issue resolution in assigned areas including: review of production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to support ship manufacturing and construction, procedures, and activities in assigned areas.
This role may also liaise with other teams including distributed design teams in order to optimally complete tasks as assigned. This role will also interface with Operation personnel to resolve production and testing issues and maintain schedule.

Duties/Accountabilities

  • Provide engineering support, primarily production issue resolution as assigned in areas of construction.
  • Liaise with Operations and with Planning and Production Control to tackle production issues in a technically acceptable manner and maintain cost and schedule objectives.
  • Develop and/or review design documents in order to achieve customer, Classification Society and other regulatory approval.
  • Develop full understanding of ship building standards, material specifications and bills of material in accordance with our clients material strategies and customer requirements.
  • Provide support to suppliers and subcontractors related to the activities in areas of construction to achieve cost and schedule performance.

Education and Experience

  • An Engineering degree in Naval Architecture (prioritized), Structural/Civil or Mechanical Engineering is required. P.Eng., or EIT registration.
  • +4 years’ post-secondary experience in manufacturing set ups, field engineering in similar industries considered.
  • Previous maritime, shipyard or shipboard knowledge or experience is desired.
  • Experience working with a diverse integrated project team is considered an asset

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies 

  • Technical knowledge and engineering skills, including use of analysis tools and knowledge of analytical methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to develop solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Above average analytical skills to capture and analyze/synthesize data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the collective analysis/synthesis process.
  • Strong technical writing and interpersonal skills including the ability to produce and communicate clear and detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
  • Working knowledge of ShipConstructor and CAD software, Navis and preferably Cadmatic software, 3D Modelling and Visualization tools, document control systems and databases is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills including verbal, written, listening and presentation.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Availability and willingness to travel if needed.

  • Exercise sound judgments and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
  • PC proficiency required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010 software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
