Position Summary:
The Convenience Marketing team at Canadian Tire Petroleum is responsible for developing and executing strategic product category plans for Gas Bars. This includes managing product assortment, merchandising initiatives, promotional programs, and vendor relationships. The team plays a key role in driving customer engagement and sales growth by aligning category strategies with business objectives and market trends.
The Marketing Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the strategic growth initiatives of the Convenience business. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of the product lifecycle, including assortment planning, supply chain coordination, merchandising execution, and promotional strategy. The Analyst will deliver actionable insights through data analysis to drive performance and support business decisions.
Working closely with the Associate Marketing Manager, the Marketing Analyst will contribute to category reviews and lead evaluations for select product categories. This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration across various departments within Canadian Tire to leverage existing programs and identify opportunities for synergy and optimization.
Responsibilities:
Data Analysis & Insights
- Source, prepare, analyze, and interpret data from multiple sources (e.g., Canadian Tire Petroleum sales data, Nielsen IQ, industry trends) to support category reviews and strategic decision-making.
- Translate complex datasets into clear, actionable insights for internal stakeholders.
- Create dashboards and reports that highlight category performance, trends, and growth opportunities.
- Utilize tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, R, and data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to support analysis and reporting.
- Gather and analyze data on customer preferences, buying habits, and competitive activity to inform merchandising and assortment strategies.
- Identify trends, patterns, and performance metrics within large datasets to drive business outcomes.
Category Management
- Support the Associate Merchandise Manager in managing all aspects of Tier 1 categories, including category reviews and monthly promotional program execution.
- Independently manage, develop, and grow Tier 2 categories: Healthy Snacks, General Merchandise, Ice Cream, Slush, Coffee & food delivery.
- Conduct full category reviews for Tier 2 categories and present findings and recommendations to the Merchandise Manager.
- Adhere to all timelines and milestones outlined in the category review schedule.
Vendor & Promotional Strategy
- Maintain strong business relationships with vendors and leverage their resources to support category management and execution.
- Negotiate vendor costing and secure Business Development Funding (BDF) through promotional co-op and volume rebate agreements.
- Optimize Plan-O-Grams in collaboration with vendor category captains and the Associate Manager.
- Develop and execute monthly promotional plans to meet and exceed performance targets.
- Create ad hoc merchandising and promotional initiatives aligned with seasonal events and consumer shopping occasions.
Retail Collaboration & Execution
- Identify and resolve category-related issues using available resources to achieve desired results.
- Communicate effectively with vendors, Regional Business Managers (RBMs), and retailers to ensure alignment and execution.
- Work closely with RBMs to understand the impact of decisions at the retail level and respond quickly and efficiently to required changes.
Requirements
- University degree in Business or a related field, or a college diploma combined with relevant experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in retail marketing or a related discipline.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in data interpretation; proficiency in Macros, SQL, and Microsoft Power BI is an asset.
- Familiarity with marketing processes, systems, and category management principles.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills using a structured, analytical approach.
- Innovative mindset with a willingness to take calculated risks.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong influencing skills with the ability to guide stakeholders toward strategic objectives.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and coordination capabilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Access.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$53,000 and CA$75,000
