Primary activities include development of automated and semi-automated machinery, specialized tooling, robotic systems, and related support equipment. Responsibilities span the full engineering lifecycle, including concept development, detailed design, analytical validation, technical studies, documentation, manufacturing support, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and operational assistance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute design, analysis, testing, and commissioning activities for complex mechanical systems from concept through deployment and long-term support.

  • Prepare, review, and approve technical documentation including drawings, bills of materials, specifications, development plans, test procedures, and engineering estimates.

  • Develop and validate 3D models for conceptual and detailed design purposes, including structural and stress analysis.

  • Apply and promote design-for-manufacture and design-for-assembly best practices.

  • Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams including drafting, procurement, manufacturing, quality, testing, commissioning, and service groups.

  • Lead and participate in technical reviews and stakeholder meetings; prepare and deliver presentations outlining technical progress and results.

  • Produce and verify engineering evaluations, reports, assessments, and other project deliverables.

  • Ensure design quality, adherence to schedules and budgets, and achievement of defined performance metrics.

  • Promote compliance with internal management systems, applicable industry codes and standards, quality requirements, and contractual obligations.

  • Monitor and communicate project status, risks, mitigation strategies, and resource requirements to leadership.

  • Fulfill project-level technical leadership responsibilities as assigned.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including process enhancements and adoption of new technologies to improve product development and delivery.

  • Maintain effective working relationships with customers, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary internal teams.

  • Support proposal development activities including scope definition, technical input, cost estimation, and participation in technical presentations.

  • Identify project risks early, evaluate alternatives, implement corrective actions, and escalate concerns when necessary.

  • Provide oversight and technical review of engineering outputs to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Promote a strong culture of health and safety in all project activities.

  • Occasional short-term travel may be required to support project and stakeholder needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (or eligible for registration).

  • Approximately 10 years of experience in mechanical design within highly regulated industries such as energy, aerospace, transportation, or similar sectors.

  • At least 5 years of demonstrated technical leadership experience in design and product development.

  • Proven involvement in complex projects across full engineering, procurement, and construction lifecycles.

  • Experience managing schedules, budgets, and project performance metrics.

  • Exposure to multidisciplinary engineering environments, including systems engineering, controls, software, manufacturing, and testing.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills suited to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated analytical ability, problem-solving capability, leadership skills, and collaborative mindset.

  • Willingness to support short-term on-site assignments when required.

  • Innovative and forward-thinking approach to engineering challenges.

Preferred Experience

  • Proficiency with 3D CAD platforms (e.g., Inventor or SolidWorks) and finite element analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS).

  • Experience within regulated nuclear or comparable high-compliance industries.

  • Familiarity with Canadian and international nuclear design standards.

  • Knowledge of pressure vessel and mechanical equipment codes and standards.

  • Strong foundation in machine design principles.
