As a Power Systems Optimization Researcher, you will be a part of the organization that works with our rapidly growing US and Global Business teams to help address their current technical needs and test new technologies for the future.
This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to the energy strategy of our company. In collaboration with other researchers on the team and external researchers at national labs and universities, the results from this person’s work will be an important part of the growth within the company’s global goal of 100GW of renewables by 2030.
The position requires autonomy and innovation, to be resourceful and well organized, as well as ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment.

Responsibilities

  • Be a subject matter expert in power systems and renewable/energy storage optimizations for internal partners and stakeholders
  • Develop model-based and /or machine learning based forecasting methods for renewable energy production and demand prediction
  • Develop model-based and /or machine learning based optimization algorithms for energy management and dispatch strategies of energy storage, microgrids and virtual power plants (VPPs)
  • Ensure technology and innovation watch, conduct extensive scouting to conceive new methods, procedures, and policies
  • Participate in R&D collaboration projects with internal and external academic partners, actively contribute to the technical / scientific contents
  • Coordinate plans with internal R&D teams with similar goals, manage regular technical progress and associated data/codes/reports among partners, test and maintain the codebase, and provide support for internal technology transfer
  • Convert complex data and research findings into innovation briefing and written reports, present key results to project stakeholders
  • Ensure proper follow-up with key stakeholders for project costs, milestones, and relevance of results

Minimum qualifications:

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Materials Engineering, Energy & Power Systems, or related field of study
  • 5+ years of experience in a field related to power systems (modeling, analysis, optimization, etc.)
  • Experience in smart grid innovation (transmission and distribution power systems modeling, renewables and energy storage modeling and optimization, and/or demand side management)
  • Proficiency in linear optimization and machine learning techniques
  • Experience with data science and quantitative analysis
  • Fluent in English

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in simulation and optimization of complex power systems with demonstrated research creativity (publication, patents, etc.)
  • Experience in software programming and simulation tool development, strong coding skills in Python, Julia and / or MATLAB with proficiency in common libraries for data science and optimization
  • Advanced knowledge of numerical methods, statistics, and strong quantitative skills
  • Experience in artificial intelligence and deep learning for power systems applications is a plus
  • Experience working with US electricity market data is a plus (ERCOT, PJM, CAISO preferred)
  • Knowledge of French is a plus

The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is between $70.00 and $75.00
