Job Title: Precon Estimator II

Location: Austin, TX (Onsite)
    
Estimated Duration: Full-time, Permanent

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Analyze plans, specifications, and documents to prepare accurate cost estimates.
  • Perform quantity take-offs using preferred estimating software.
  • Prepare detailed estimates, budgets, and bid proposals.
  • Create bid tabs and compare subcontractor quotes.
  • Identify risks and inconsistencies in trade proposals.
  • Develop general conditions, durations, and fee structures.
  • Maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Participate in site walks or pre-bid meetings as needed.
  • Ensure smooth transition from estimating to operations.
  • Maintain cost databases and track market pricing.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and procurement teams.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in the construction industry.
  • Commercial general contractor experience is required.
  • Strong ability to complete quantity take-offs and scope analysis.
  • Proficiency with estimating software, including:
    • Preferred: PlanSwift, Bluebeam Revu, OST (On-Screen Takeoff), Sage Estimating, or ProEst.
  • Experience with bid management platforms.
    • Preferred: BuildingConnected, Procore (Precon), Stack, SmartBid, or  BidClerk.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze and level subcontractor bids.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with both hard bid and CMAR/GMP delivery methods.
  • Proficiency in Sage Estimating software.
  • Familiarity with Austin-area permitting and local codes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Certifications (Preferred):
    • ASPE (Certified Professional Estimator)
    • LEED Accreditation
  • Experience with AutoCAD/Revit for reading drawings.
  • Advanced Excel skills (formulas, cost models).
