Job Title: Principal Electrical Engineer

Contract Duration: 12 months with a possibility to convert to FTE

Job Summary
Principal Electrical Engineer supporting the Capital Projects Team (CPT), responsible for QA/QC of EPC engineering deliverables from detailed design through commissioning/startup. Ensures electrical systems meet contractual, regulatory, safety, and industry standards across Liquefaction (LQF) and Pretreatment (PTF) facilities. Provides technical support during startup, troubleshooting, and plant operations.

Key Technical Areas

  • HV/MV/LV electrical power systems, substations, transmission lines, HV cables, GIS, switchgear and transformers
  • Power system modeling, ETAP, harmonics, harmonic filters, load flow, short circuit, arc flash and protection studies
  • LCI/VFDs, synchronous motors, PMCS, protective relays, generators, lighting and DC systems
  • IEEE 519, NEC, NFPA 70E, ANSI/NEMA and Safety in Design
  • Power system protection, grounding, GPR, lightning protection and bonding

Key Responsibilities

  • Review engineering designs, specifications, datasheets, procurement packages and vendor documents
  • Review power system studies, protection schemes, equipment ratings and hazardous-area classifications
  • Participate in FATs, SATs, HAZOPs, HAZIDs, SAFOP/eHAZOPs and engineering audits
  • Coordinate electrical interfaces across EPC contractors, vendors, Operations and other disciplines
  • Manage EPC technical issues, change orders, deviations, problem resolution and SAFOP actions
  • Ensure electrical design, construction and testing meet codes, standards, project requirements and schedule
  • Interface with utilities such as CenterPoint Energy regarding grid configuration and equipment
  • Support regulatory requirements, commissioning, startup and troubleshooting

Minimum Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 10+ years direct HV/MV experience, including HV cables, VFDs, synchronous motors and protective relays
  • Proficiency with ANSI/NEMA, NEC, NFPA 70E and Safety in Design
  • Strong technical communication, analytical, organizational and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently with EPCs, contractors, vendors, Operations and plant leadership

Preferred

  • Texas PE License
  • 15+ years HV/MV experience
  • Experience with HV GIS, AIS switchyards, harmonics/harmonic filters, generators, illumination, grounding/GPR, lightning protection and bonding
  • SEL equipment experience
  • Valid driver’s license and TWIC
  • Willingness to travel to facilities around the Houston area, EPC offices and vendor locations

The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is between $120.00 and $130.00
