Project Controls Coordinator IV

Our client is a Canadian multinational energy transportation company. They focus on the transportation, distribution, and generation of energy, primarily in North America. They have a long history in the responsible development and reliable and safe operation of North American energy infrastructure. They are one of the continent’s largest providers of gas storage and related services.

They are currently looking for a Project Controls Coordinator IV for their Calgary or Edmonton, AB location.

Description:
Under the direction of the Supervisor Project Controls, the Project Cost Controller will monitor, analyze, and report on the cost performance of multiple complex and multi-disciplined major projects, closely collaborating with the project scheduler. This includes ensuring that costs for assigned projects are estimated, accounted for, and reported in an accurate and timely manner and in accordance with the Company’s established business practices and procedures.

Specific Accountabilities
Provides cost control support to assigned project management teams:

  • Establish and maintain the project Work Breakdown Structure such that it facilitates project execution and cost control during project execution and fulfills other Company stakeholder requirements
  • Collect inputs for project cost estimates, establish control budgets, on-going monitoring and control of incurred costs and commitments, forecasting, variance and earned value analysis and cost reporting to various stakeholders
  • Prepare timely and accurate reports and presentations for and provide support to project management team members and stakeholders regarding the cost status of their respective project budgets.
  • Work closely with the project scheduler and field controls analyst to ensure alignment of processes to report progress, changes, highlights and issues.
  • Review cost transactions to ensure accurate record of project costs.
  • Engage the project stakeholders to review project costs, commitments, and forecast.
  • Participate in project team, stakeholder, and vendor status meetings to stay informed of project changes to scope, cost, schedule and progress.
  • Ensure that Company-sanctioned cost control processes are applied in the execution of their project activities.
  • Assign priorities to complex, multiple, competing projects by effectively prioritizing work activities. Establish and adjust priorities based on the department’s objectives and the Company’s strategic plan.
  • Liaise with the PMO, Capital Assets department and other project stakeholders for project related responsibilities.
  • Widen and apply expertise by broadening alliances and working relationships with a broad cross-section of stakeholders, both within and beyond the Major Projects business unit. Communicate and work effectively with a varying set of these stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Review Company policies and procedures and recommend improved processes for project cost management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • University Degree or combination of education and related experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of Project Controls or Project Management experience.
  • Experienced analytical skills including Earned Value Management
  • An independent worker within a team setting.
  • Demonstrated professional engagement at a high level with work group, stakeholders, and contractors in a team setting.
  • Proficient in the use of common financial systems, Microsoft Office suite, intermediate+ Excel skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize workload, bring issues forward and develop working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Detail oriented and understands the importance of data reconciliation
  • Possess an aptitude for successfully building relationships with employees, internal stakeholders, vendors and service providers.

Include but are not limited to: Grasping, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement.

Include but are not limited to: Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports, communicate with individuals via phone and video, and communicate technical issues to technical and non-technical staff.
Working Conditions

  • Office environment – hybrid option available
  • Overnight business or construction field trips may be required
  • Expectation to produce required reports and cost data in a timely manner
  • Occasional travel to field worksite locations. May require Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is:
$65.00/HR – $75.00/HR
