Job Title: Quality Assurance Engineer II

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Quality Engineer II develops automated testing strategies and implements them using industry-standard testing frameworks. This position will join a newly created engineering team supporting a business-critical enterprise application.
The engineer will provide hands-on test-automation expertise, improve regression coverage, strengthen testing processes, and help ensure that new and existing application functionality meets established quality standards. The role will also provide technical guidance, communicate quality findings to stakeholders, and monitor emerging testing technologies and best practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Testing Strategy and Continuous Improvement
- Understand the challenges faced by engineering, delivery, and operations teams and partner with them to design viable testing solutions.
- Recommend improvements to testing processes, technologies, and interfaces that increase effectiveness and reduce technical debt.
- Contribute to or own the test-automation strategy, test-data management strategy, and automation-framework architecture.
- Define, implement, and maintain automated-testing processes and best practices.
- Review manual test cases and identify appropriate scenarios for automation.
Automation Development and Execution
- Develop new test-automation frameworks and maintain existing frameworks supporting the application.
- Write, debug, maintain, and execute code used in automated-testing efforts.
- Develop and maintain regression automation across supported application functionality.
- Partner with software developers and other automation engineers to build tools and infrastructure that ensure production code is thoroughly tested.
- Investigate automation failures, application defects, data issues, and unreliable tests.
- Help improve the reliability, maintainability, and execution speed of automated test suites.
Reporting, Support, and Technical Guidance
- Provide metrics on business-process coverage and code coverage for automated test suites.
- Present test results, defects, risks, and quality findings to technical and business stakeholders.
- Provide ongoing support, monitoring, and maintenance for deployed products.
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced software test engineers.
- Stay current on testing technologies and best practices and share relevant insights with the engineering organization.
MUST HAVES
- Two or more years of professional software development and/or software-testing experience. Candidates with additional experience are welcome.
- Professional experience with automated testing frameworks.
- Hands-on Selenium experience.
- Experience writing, debugging, maintaining, and executing automation code or scripts.
- Experience testing consumer-facing or business-critical applications.
- Experience validating application data or testing databases.
- Experience with software-testing tools, processes, and regression testing.
- Experience with scripting and configuration tools.
- Working knowledge of Agile, waterfall, iterative, or comparable development methodologies.
- Working knowledge of software analysis, design, programming, and product delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of professional experience and education.
NICE TO HAVES
- Direct Robot Framework experience.
- Experience supporting transaction-processing or high-volume applications.
- Experience testing regulated, financial, government, or other compliance-sensitive workflows.
- Experience designing automation strategy or framework architecture.
- Experience with test-data management.
- Experience coordinating regression automation across multiple applications or integrations.
- Experience measuring automated-test coverage, business-process coverage, or code coverage.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience supporting deployed products or participating in release engineering.
- Experience presenting test results to technical and business stakeholders.
- Code-review, technical-guidance, or informal mentoring experience.
The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$38.00 and CA$40.00
