Job Title: Quality Engineering Specialist

Job Description
The Quality Engineering Specialist plays a key role in embedding quality into engineering processes, deliverables, and team practices across the shipyard. This position focuses on preventing issues before they reach production, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards, and driving continuous improvement within engineering functions. The ideal candidate will foster a proactive quality culture by monitoring processes, analyzing trends, and guiding teams toward sustainable solutions.
Duties/Accountabilities
- Ensure all data aligns at major milestones, flag discrepancies early for Project Team risk assessment.
- Monitor and ensure the effective implementation of processes across engineering functions and subcontractors.
- Identify deficiencies in engineering deliverables and lead root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
- Initiate and drive process improvement initiatives; ensure corrective actions are embedded and sustained within engineering workflows.
- Support weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly Quality Review Meetings by preparing and presenting relevant data, trend analysis, and issue tracking.
- Conduct progressive quality reviews of engineering data and documentation in advance of project milestones; communicate findings proactively to responsible teams.
- Lead audits and compliance checks of engineering deliverables to ensure adherence to internal standards, classification society, and client requirements.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (engineering, production, supply chain, and subcontractors) to promote a preventive quality culture through awareness sessions and feedback loops.
- Maintain accurate quality records and provide timely reporting to management.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support integration between engineering and production.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent technical background.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Skilled in data analysis and reporting; proficiency with Microsoft Office required, experience with systems such as ARAS, IFS, or Power BI is an asset.
- 3–5 years of experience in engineering quality, design assurance, or shipbuilding-related engineering.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 and quality management systems.
- Familiarity with classification society and regulatory requirements (ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s, Transport Canada, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience with audits, root cause analysis, corrective/preventive action methods, and process improvement.
- Ability to interpret and review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across functions.
