Job Title: RF Network Installation and Maintenance Technician

Job Summary: The RF Network Installation and Maintenance Technician is responsible for understanding, assembling, and maintaining hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) networks through hands-on work with various cable types, connectors, and active/passive components. The technician will work with different types of cables and connectors to install.  

Job Responsibilities

The role includes in-depth exposure to both active and passive network components, including nodes, trunk amplifiers, line extenders, taps, splitters, couplers, and power inserters. Technicians will install cables and connectors on all these devices, identifying common failure points such as seizure screws and metal inserts on taps.  A strong emphasis will be placed on clean installation practices, attention to detail, and the quality of workmanship, including the formation of drip loops and overall tidiness.

A thorough understanding of RF and AC flow is essential. The technician will study the direction of RF signal flow and the flow of AC power throughout the network. Additionally, they will review signal levels across the RF distribution path, including nodes, trunk amps, line extenders, and taps. This includes the use and interpretation of RF and power maps to verify network performance.

Technicians will also be expected to meet and exceed field audit expectations. This includes setting up key network components such as nodes (including optical and RF pads, fuses), trunk amplifiers, line extenders, power inserters, and couplers. 
Testing and verification are crucial aspects of the job. The technician will be  use test equipment such as the JDSU Stealth meter to check signal levels, perform forward and return path sweeps, analyze noise levels, and conduct QAM and MER checks. Proper setup and use of the JDSU probe and compensation for splitter losses will also be covered, along with identifying the correct frequency ranges and ports for sweep operations.

This role is ideal for candidates seeking a technical, hands-on position in RF network construction and maintenance, with a focus on precision, reliability, and performance excellence.

Job Qualifications
3-4 years of Industry experience with RF back ground in a Coax network environemnts 
Active and Passive Equipment, Nodes, Trunk Amps, Line Extenders, Taps, Splitters, Couplers, Power Inserters.  
Experience reviewing Direction of RF Flow andf AC Flow.  
Understanding of RF Levels of Trunk and Distribution on Nodes, Trunk Amps, Line Extenders, Taps
Experience with RF Maps and Power Maps
Ability to Setup a Node, optical pads, RF pads, fuses, etc..
Seting up of Trunk Amp,  Line Extenders, PI, Splitter, Couplers.  
Experience setting up a complete RF Network with Node, PI, Trunk Amp, Line Extender, Splitters, Couplers, Taps
Using JDSU Stealth meter, checking levels, SWEEPING, Noise levels, QAM checks, MER Checks, etc..

 

 

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$30.00 and CA$35.00
