Senior Customs Analyst

Location: Mississauga, ON (Hybrid)
Type: Permanent, Full Time

Our client, a leading player in advanced manufacturing and defense technology, is hiring a Senior Customs Analyst to support their international trade and compliance operations. This position is key to ensuring all import and export activity aligns with Canadian and U.S. customs laws, trade programs, and internal policies.

Overview

This role will serve as the main point of contact for customs compliance across the business. The Senior Customs Analyst will advise internal teams, monitor regulatory changes, classify goods under correct HS codes, ensure proper application of trade agreements, and support duty and tariff optimization. You will collaborate closely with logistics, trade compliance, and legal, while helping mitigate compliance risk and drive process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the lead resource for all customs and international trade matters
• Ensure compliance with customs laws, trade regulations, USMCA/CUSMA, ITAR, EAR, and CGP
• Provide guidance to logistics and shipping teams on customs requirements
• Validate tariff treatments and confirm correct HS codes for all imports and exports
• Conduct audits and random verifications of broker entries and import declarations
• Manage duty and tariff programs including drawbacks and exemptions
• Maintain strong documentation and recordkeeping standards
• Monitor and advise on regulatory updates and customs rulings
• Prepare Certificates of Origin when applicable
• Support export control activities and internal investigations as needed
• Liaise with internal legal and external trade counsel on complex issues
• Provide risk reporting and support compliance strategy
• Contribute to ongoing process improvements within trade compliance

Required Experience

• Minimum 5 years experience in customs and trade compliance roles
• Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Licensed Customs Broker, or similar designation
• Strong knowledge of HS classification, Incoterms, USMCA/CUSMA, and valuation rules
• Understanding of ITAR, EAR, CGP, CARM, and Canadian export/import legislation
• Hands on experience with duty drawback programs, audits, and rulings
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
• University or college education in International Trade, Logistics, Commerce, or related field is an asset

Nice to Have

• Bilingual French and English
• Knowledge of aerospace or space technology industry

Security Requirements

Candidates must be eligible to obtain Secret clearance and meet requirements for Controlled Goods and ITAR compliance.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$80,000 and CA$90,000
