Role: Senior Application Developer
Job Overview
Working under minimal supervision, this role designs, develops, supports, and continuously improves business applications and digital solutions. The Senior Application Developer leverages Guidewire InsuranceSuite, cloud technologies, AI capabilities, Python development, and rapid prototyping techniques to deliver innovative, scalable, secure, and business-focused solutions. The role acts as a technical leader, mentors team members, and drives adoption of modern engineering practices to accelerate delivery and improve member outcomes.
Job Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, develop, integrate, and support solutions within the Guidewire InsuranceSuite ecosystem while ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, security standards, and business objectives.
  • Prepare technical specifications from requirements.
  • Ensure successful completion of developer assignments by estimating and tracking progress of assigned work.
  • Maintain the operation of business systems and applications.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve application incidents.
  • Participate in planning activities.
  • Create and update relevant documentation.
  • Improve upon and ensure adherence to the established practices, processes, and guidelines.
  • Keep current with relevant technologies.
  • Mentor other Application Developers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Post-secondary degree or diploma in software development or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of practical experience performing an application development role designing, building, testing, and supporting software solutions
  • Detail oriented with analytical and problem-solving skills to recognize and identify issues and take proper action to resolve them.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for the audience and message.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to develop and implement plans by prioritizing and multi-tasking.
  • Good leadership skills, with the ability to facilitate high team morale by encouraging and coaching team members.
  • Demonstrated experience with modern programming languages and development frameworks, including Python.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting cloud-based solutions; AWS experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning concepts, and AI-assisted software development practices.
  • Experience rapidly prototyping and iterating solutions to validate business concepts and technical approaches.
  • Experience integrating APIs, cloud services, Guidewire applications, and modern application architectures.
  • Working knowledge and experience with the Guidewire InsuranceSuite platform, including one or more of:
    • PolicyCenter
    • BillingCenter
    • ClaimCenter
    • Guidewire Cloud Platform
    • Guidewire Integration Framework
  • Experience with Guidewire configuration, integrations, workflows, data models, and upgrades is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, security, and DevOps principles.
  • Effective decision-making skills, with the ability to direct team members to achieve goals through clear instruction.
  • Experience using software development tools, such as JIRA, Confluence, Source Code Management, Advanced Product Designer (APD) and TeamCity is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Unix; Windows; Oracle; Microsoft SQL Server; Java is considered an asset.
  • Rating experience considered an asset.
  • Certifications in relevant technology or processes is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in Insurance industry is considered an asset.

The pay range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for this position is between CA$70.00 and CA$100.00
