Senior Solid Waste Design Engineer

A well-established engineering consultancy with a strong national presence in Canada is currently looking for a Senior Solid Waste Design Engineer to join its environmental practice. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, and candidates may be located in several major Canadian cities, such as Montréal, Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria, or others.
Position Responsibilities:

Lead and manage engineering projects related to solid waste facilities, such as landfills, organics processing sites, transfer stations, material recovery centers, and public drop-off locations.

Oversee detailed design work, prepare cost estimates, develop tender documents, and provide support during construction phases.

Contribute to or lead planning studies, including operations planning, environmental monitoring programs, and compliance documentation for regulatory approvals.

Analyze and evaluate solid waste system performance, including capacity assessments, liability estimation, and coordination of related specialist studies (e.g., odour, noise, and traffic reviews).

Manage project budgets, track progress, coordinate with subcontractors, and ensure timely delivery.

Collaborate closely with clients to meet expectations and identify new opportunities.

Interpret environmental data using standardized and advanced analytical techniques.

Develop, review, and finalize technical reports, proposals, and documentation.

Qualifications:

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in good standing within a Canadian province.

A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the waste management sector, with strong expertise in at least one of the following: landfill design and construction, regulatory compliance, or strategic waste planning.

Thorough understanding of environmental standards and regulations applicable to waste management in Canada, particularly in Ontario.

Skilled in resolving technical and compliance-related issues through practical and cost-effective solutions.

Proven ability in managing contractors, budgets, and multi-stakeholder project teams.

Strong communication skills in English; bilingualism is considered an asset.
